I see Ritchie and I get shivers of Chris Dingman. Obviously Ritchie is a better prospect than what Dingman was, but just got that bad feeling.

How is Sven an average prospect?
Average skill?
Do you even know who he is?
Nobody would give a 2nd round pick for him? wtf?
Even Pronman, who is more bearish on Sven than most, thinks he's a good prospect.
Corey Pronman@coreypronman · 2h
He's a very talented player, good prospect, but may need to reign in expectations RT @dotfras: @coreypronman what's your take on Baertschi?

Of course a lot of these skills can be acquired and thats what we need to hope for.
Bottom line, no one is giving us a first round pick for Sven. Not sure if anyone is giving us a second round pick for Sven. If we can peddle him to acquire a stronger prospect being either a potential power forward winger or a potential 1-2 defensive prospect we need to take it.

Or we could just keep sven? Ease up sofa gm you aren't actually a gm

The only way I see this being worth it for the flames (depending what we give up) is if we were to keep number 4 and add number 2. Unless we obtain both picks in the first round I dont see the point.

I don't even want to know what we would have to give up to get the #2 while keeping #4, it wouldn't be worth it.

I have no idea what the Flames are considering giving up to try and get to #2.............therefore I'm going to panic about it and decided that I don't like this.

The way I look at it is who's game will most likely transfer to the NHL level? I mean Reinhart is good and all but he is not going to be a "big man" and we need a big man to compete in our division. Draisaitl's game and also his size are already made for this division, do we really want Edmonton to have this? Reinhart is a better Monohan but will never develop that edge, he is too passive in how he plays the game imo. I also feel that Bennett's game will not translate as he will always be too small to play his game against men.
I also look at the points this kid put up with absolutely nobody around him, the rest had better teams built around in which to play with, this cannot be overlooked imo and may be one of the reasons why the Flames think he may have much more of an upside than the rest.
For this reason alone my two that I would pick over everyone else is Ekblad and Draisaitl, the other top 2 I have doubts on how well their game will translate.
Plus I get a little weak in the knees when I think of a line combo of Draisaitl, Gaudreau and maybe a power forward like Ferland(or maybe similar). Lots of room being created by the two big men, Gaudreau setting up shop behind the net.....wowzers!

The Flames desire for pursuing #2 could be that the Panthers have apparently 3 legitimate offers on the table from teams who perhaps would not draft Ekblad and one of the Sam's instead. Therefore since Buffalo is more in the market for a forward, they would perhaps be willing to deal with us knowing that one of the Sam's is at #4 and if we drafted Ekblad. This is of course assuming Edmonton would take Draisaitl at #3.

I won't try to argue that none of the top 4 this year would have cracked the top 6 last year.
However, I would prefer Monahan to Reinhart. Yes, Reinhart has more skill and offensive ability as his point totals demonstrate. But when you factor in Monahan's size, poise, desire to learn, and 200 ft game, I prefer Monahan.
The draft isn't about who is the best player, it is about who will become the best NHLer. For me, that's Monahan (and it isn't using hindsight, I was big on him last year)

No Eklblad still might be #1, (or #5 after Seth Jones) but this crop of top picks would have been going somewhere around 7-12.
Redline does an unbiased evaluation:
Bennett's report card has the following:
Size/Strength: B-
Skating: A-
Shot/Scoring Ability: B+
Puck handling: A
Hockey sense: A
Competitiveness: A
Physical play: A-
Composure/poise: A-
Defence: B
Monahan Report Card
Size/Strength A
Skating B+
Shot/Scoring ability B+
Puckhandling A
Hockey Sense A+
Competitiveness A
Physical play B
Composure/Poise A
Defence B
so Monahan is 4 grades higher on size/strength
1 grade lower on skating
1 grade higher on Hockey sense
2 grades lower on physical play
and 1 grade higher on composure and poise.
Redline had Bennett at #1
Ritchie Report Card
Size/Strength A+
Skating B
Shot/Scoring ability B+
Puckhandling B
Hockey Sense B+
Competitiveness A
Physical play A
Composure/Poise B
Defence C+
Redline had Bennett at #1

You are correct Eldrick, it all depends if these big guys can take the next step. When the big guys aren't able to take the next step and keep up with the game at this level, they look extra bad.

I just dont see the upside of moving up a couple spots in this draft. IMO 1-4 have basically the same value so why give up anything to move up? It only makes sense to me to move up and grab 2 of the top 4 skaters.
I still would rather stay put and play with the later picks.

Or Vancouver.
Or anyone else looking to move up.
And they want to make sure that info is out there.
I'm sure they are discussing a deal for #2, they wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't.

I would swap 2 and 4 with Hudler, or Glencross (yes I know he has a NMC) to be in control of who we pick instead of taking whoever is left.
However I wouldn't want to pay a lot, and I wouldn't want to give up on a prospect to move up 2 spots.

you wouldn't want to give a lot (defined by prospect), but you'd give up a bonafide top 6 forward?
ok then
