Yeah the opening act was actually petty interesting...group of 3 guys all playing strings...no bass/pecussion etc...called High Valley and from Nothern Alberta....different but pretty good and only played 20 mins or so. Shania will take the stage shortly after 8, and play til 10:15 or so...as its a fairly interactive show so times will vary a bit.
Will say this..im fairly indifferent to her genre of music, but that girl...just wow....a total and complete pro who can truly sing and connects with her audience like few others i have ever seen. Well worth the money spent and would not hesitate to see her again and just might do so in October when we head to Vegas again.

Thanks! Really looking forward to the show. Not too upset about being dragged by the girlfriend for this one.

LOL..exactly how i felt going in last night. Gotta say I came out of it with an entirely different attitude.
One moe thing about her....last night was her first "concert" in over 10 years as she has only done the Vegas thing since then...and boy does it show. The production values were insane and scream Las Vegas all over them. A real treat.
The divorce, breakups happening around Stampede time confuses me. It's a fair with garbage food and rickety rides... How does this lead to so much adultery?

They just allowed bars to be open even early, specifically for Stampede. Whether people want to admit it or not, Stampede is now much more known for the party and the drinking and random hookups than the rodeo or midway. Without the party the Stampede would be pretty lame.

Is it the office work party with your coworkers you see for 8+ hrs every day for the past 5 years? I'll never understand extroverts.
I think it is less cheating with your co-workers and more of the parties where there are so many different types of people, including tourists looking for a good time.
Visit the Nashville North tent or Cowboys tent and that will give you the first idea. (Hint: Think Girls dressing up in Slutty cowgirl halloween costumes)
Add businessmen who are spending money like it is going out of style.
Then dump ridiculous amounts of alcohol on top of that.

Strange, I don't really associate the Stampede with boozing/partying at all.

Really IMO that is what makes the Stampede great, there really are two aspects to the event.
If you want to just enjoy the city's enthusiasm about the event, hit up some Stampede breakfasts, go to the rodeo and grandstand shows, and tour the midway for some gut busting stampede food you can do that without seeing the booze or party.
But if you want to have a 10 day party full of girls, drinking, and partying, that is an option as well and you don't have to work very hard to find a party.

Tourists aren't coming for the Midway and the Rodeo. They're coming for our version of Mardi Gras. The Stampede will be eliminating the rodeo long before they eliminate alcohol.

And the Stampede will never eliminate the rodeo or the chuckwagons.

Never heard that analogy but it actually fits quite well.

You would be surprised.
Sure the young tourists are coming for the party, but I would bet you we get just as many people for the rodeo aspect.

Cuz, people are idiots.
Every year I have been to the Oxford Stomp, I have been offered a BJ when going to the pisser.
I declined.

I remember seeing this a few years back when the show came to Calgary.
