I was thinking about that too yesterday, surprised how that never came up once on the NFL Network Draft show yesterday when they discussed potential Carr to Texans talk (unless I just missed it). Especially since Charley Casserly aka the guy who drafted David Carr in Houston, was on that panel. Or maybe he just chooses to forget that happened..

Also kinda crazy how David Carr has a brother 12 years his junior

Schefter was on the Dan Patrick Show this morning and he thinks if the Texans were to take a QB today it would be Garoppolo. The Texans apparently have him as a first round grade. And if the Raiders are to take a QB today Schefter thinks it will be Carr.

Easley was likely a top 10 pick in this draft until he tore his ACL.
If he is healed he will be a great pick for the Pats.
There seems to be universal agreement that if not for ACL Easley would be a first-round pick, and likely in the top 10. Multiple evaluations put the Florida defensive lineman in a conversation with potential top pick Clowney.
The thing that grabs everybody's attention is the same thing that made Easley one of the nation's top high school prospects while he was leading Curtis to two PSAL city championships -- that lightning-quick first step.

Well, for those of us hoping the late draft would be a bust and it would return to earlier on the calendar, with the ratings it doesn't look like that will happen.

The NFL is king. It's evidenced by people loving football but also massive interest in the offseason activities. Like the 2014 NFL Draft, which drew massive ratings on Thursday night.

The NFL is King and should not concern itself with what is happening in the other sports leagues.

Everything has been pretty well-documented in online articles about the kid, but sources say he's a spoiled brat (grandfather gives him allowance, father bought him luxury car). They say he was getting on people's nerves during the '12 season, but it went to another level after the ALUN game. Seems to enjoy putting himself in situations where he knows attention will follow him (TXUN frat party during summer). CONCERNS: Off-field behavior, cockiness, maturity

Has an avg. work ethic, came to 4 of 32 summer '13 workouts, and quit going to in-season workouts late in '12. Doesn't study the game, said to know about 60% of the offense in '12, never watches film; one source said only time he watched film during '12 was before ALUN. Comes from 'outlaw bloodlines', mom moved the family to Kerrville to get away from father's wild family. Father's family is said to be very shady people, always into something, they are the root of Johnny's personality. 'What you see on TV and how he is portrayed, that's him; but when you talk to him, you'll like him'. Coaches love his tuffs/competes, they want to go to war with him, but 'Johnny will be Johnny' during the week. Knows how to scheme the system, arrogant and full of himself, but he's not smug to coaches. Has been like this since Day 1, has never gone to class, goes to beat of own drum, but has ultimate confidence. Loves the spotlight, football is his release, big games don't scare him. Has size 15 feet and freakishly big hands. Will drink, but no one I spoke with think he's a smoker. Teammates don't dislike him, but there's some resentment, more so in the offseason when he isn't coming to workouts and they are busting their butt. Loner, doesn't hang out with the guys, but very close with WR Mike Evans. Already has money, is used to spotlight, has already been exposed to NFL-level fame. Will never take football seriously enough for our coaching staff, he'll hate meetings, will have to drag him to work out, etc. The definition of the word maintenance. CONCERNS: Maturity, passion for preparation, high-maintenance, work ethic

I don't think you can really criticize anything from that scouting report. It's pretty fair and even handed. Obviously Manziel could be a talented kid, but does he really have the need or even the desire to become a productive starter in the NFL? I can see why the Patriots and other teams may have passed on him if he's not studying game film or improving his work ethic on off-days.

Wouldn't think much of this is a surprise to anyone these days (based on all the media coverage). Interesting to read some of the details though... just Johnny being Johnny?

If anything, Manziel is the anti-Tebow (in terms of off-the-field behavior).

I think the key will be Manziel's compete level and his ego -- wanting to be the best. I would be surprised if he is satisfied cashing a paycheque (Exhibit A: Russell, JaMarcus), as he doesn't need the money and already has the fame. What he doesn't have is being the best of the best at the NFL level -- if that's something he wants I think he's got what it takes to get there.

There's also a lot to be said about some of these "robots" coming out of college that have been groomed to extract every ounce of talent out of them (Exhibit B: Clausen, Jimmy). I think a guy like Manziel is still quite raw and will only get better once he learns what quarterbacking at the NFL level is like.
