This stabbing will forever be associated with BSD. If BSD or the U of C really has anything to do with it not will be irrelevant. The association will always be there and this day of celebration/ partying will no longer exist as a student union/ university event, right or wrong.

I haven't linked this tragedy to BSD. I have only linked BSD to mass drunkenness and stupid behavior. If however, it is discovered that all the individuals involved in this incident were in attendance at BSD and continued the party after U of C terminated official campus events, then I think it just might be safe to link BSD to this incident. Big difference though between linking something and suggesting that it is directly responsible.
Nothing wrong with that, but it really is no different than a drunken fight or stabbing happening after a Flames game or concert. They certainly can be linked, but to blame the event for the tragedy is ridiculous.
I'd say the media is already making the connection to University/BSD, right or wrong.

The tragic news out of Calgary means our special segment scheduled for tonight on challenges facing university graduates will be delayed...
Forgive me if I am wrong, but I don't believe there are other events during BSD that don't revolve around alcohol?
The UofC actually endorsed an alternative to the beer gardens this year with "BSD Day of Service", where students can participate in volunteer work in the community.
From what I've heard, the administration isn't too fond of the beer gardens aspect of BSD. It'll be interesting to see how this event effects the future of the on campus beer gardens. The murder happened outside of the campus, and several hours after the beer gardens closed, but given the proximity to the campus, the likelihood the house party was a result of BSD, and of course the possibility of the victims being UCalgary students, there's associate between these murders and BSD.
This could be used as incentive to get rid of BSD for the future, or at least revamp it to different theme outside of intoxication; which is a damn shame since for the majority of participants, it's meant to be a fun social party with no violence intended or sought after.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, there was a BSD house party 2 doors from us last night. It was extremely loud and spilled out into the streets until the wee hours of the morning, which may be why I'm being a grump over the entire concept.

Suspect looks like he's in rough condition. Could be from the dog or my guess is he got into a fight with someone there which quickly turned into him getting beat up by more than one person (because nobody fights 1 on 1 anymore) and he grabbed a knife and started swinging.
