Glad to hear the confidence Burke has in Hartley, ward, and ramo going forward. Will be interesting to see what Burke does to make this team bigger... Guys like Byron, baertschi, granlund, and gaudreau have all impressed this year. Guys in the system right now with size who could possibly make the team next year are ferland, knight, and BVB. I think Butke likes David Jones and just hopes he can stay healthy next year.
If we get to draft Reinhart, Bennett, Draisaitl or Ekblad - we've done good. 3 centres, 1 d-man. Any one of those 4 players is a HUGE boost for us going forward.
..very happy to hear Burke is high on all of them.

I am so glad someone finally said that the draft lottery show is embarrassing. I'm sorry, but you shouldn't be happy that you finished in the bottom five, so it's not a good thing to be there. I could never take the jubilation Tambellini and Oilers brass had in being there the last five years.

also note that he didn't say anything about Ekblad... guessing he thinks he goes 1st overall or at least definitely won't be there at #4 or #5
Well he talked about Ekblad in general along with the 1 D man in the top 10 and now two with Fleury. Not specifically though because yes, I assume the think he won't be there.

I'll never forget the video of a bar in Edmonton when they announced they got 1st overall. Everyone cheered like the cup winning goal went in.
I love everything that Burke said both in the press conference and the sit-down with Pete and Pat afterwards.
My only reservation about what he said is also a bit mixed. He wants the bar to be raised - which is what he should indeed be saying, and I agree with it as I would never want anyone in management stating they don't want to improve. What concerns me is that the rebuild becomes a bit accelerated. I would HATE to have an 'Ottawa season' next year with the draft looking as good as the 2013 draft, and then taking a step down again. Or even worse - turning into the Leafs who look 'competitive' but were clearly not a contender, and look to be trending down again.
I really believe that this team almost needs a top 5 pick next season, and then goes on the upswing to turn into a legitimate contender for the upcoming seasons.
Other than that, I think every question asked was followed with a very good and honest answer. Everything about the players, the coaching, the culture, the draft - very good end of season press conference. Burke took a step up from what I thought of him. Really liked he stood up for Hartley - as he should.
