You may be an advanced stats person, but if you are his numbers were really not good. It was obvious, both by that and simply by watching his commitment to the 200 foot game that he need to develop his game at the pro level, unless he was playing on a team like the Oilers.
What was definitely not handled well was by Baertschi, upon being sent down.
He struggled badly. This is to some degree understandable... but he kept it up for far too long. Now it seems he is turning his game around. Has grown as a professional.
I do not see the problem here

Conroy mentioned today how they want him to get stronger and faster this summer. We definitely saw that this year.

Glad to see him being named AHL player of the week, should be a bit of a confidence builder for him and he may get his hunger back for more.
I hope and think we'll see more of him soon...

I personally think Sven will win out and make the Flames out of camp next season with a fresh attitude, refined game and work ethic. He comes and insta-melds to the identity Hartley has forged into his team because he's had ample time watching the games on TV to see what it did for his teammates in the big club.
Me, I personally want to see Johnny tear the AHL up for a season. I have complete confidence in him to do that. He'll sign an ATO for the Heat just in time for the playoff run. If he didn't taste a championship in the NCAA this year, he gets a shot at the gold in the AHL to ease the sting of loss. It'll give him a chance to forge some headstart chemistry with people he might be playing with in the NHL eventually - Klimchuk, Poirier, Granlund.

Sorry about the quick thread de-rail, but I believe that, even if Gaudreau signs this year, he is not eligible to play with the Heat. I believe that the rule in the new CBA is, if you are not on the 50 contracts roster at the trade deadline, you cannot play in the minors.
Someone can please correct me if I am wrong.

In the scenario that Gaskal is describing, you are incorrect. If you sign an ATO, it has no effect to the NHL team's contracts or limits and strictly an AHL contract. Coda Gordan, another unsigned Flames prospect, currently has an ATO with the Heat and can be on their roster without an issue. Brett Kulak, who signed a contract with the Flames, but it is not in effect until the 2014-15 season, signed a PTO with the Heat and can play on their roster.
Johnny could sign an ATO with Abbotsford and play for the Heat. If Johnny signs an NHL contract which comes into effect during the 2013-14 season, then he could not play for the Heat. As he has to date not signed an NHL contract, the scenerio of him signing an ATO and playing for the Heat is perfectly fine and probably the Flames preferred way of getting him playing time in the system at this point in the season. Any contract he would sign with the Flames would be going into effect in 2014-15 anyway as the season ends on Saturday and he's currently still playing in the NCAA and on an active roster.
I do believe though if he signs a ATO/PTO with the Heat, he would be effectively ending his NCAA career. He could not play in the playoffs for the Heat and then return to college.

Despite his hot streak (18 points in 12 games), Baertschi will play out the season in Abbotsford as the Flames have no regular recalls left.

Great news to see Sven doing well. He is one of our top prospects and if he can meet his potential it will help us turn the corner that much faster.

Flames season ends on Sunday and I suspect they'll dangle the chance to play that game to both Gaudreau and Arnold. I wouldn't expect to see Gaudreau with the Heat (this year at least)

Here's hoping baertschi carries the heat on a deep playoff run just like he did for the winterhawks in his last year of junior.

I think the organization and Sven himself all got caught up in the hype. The Flames have tried very hard to not ruin him like the Oilers have so since Burke took over it had been more of a tough love approach. Sven has started to respond and it will beef it both him and the organization next year. Sven has always been known for his dedication and passion so I think he has a huge summer and makes the team out of camp. He will be pushing for a top 6 role next year as well

Hopefully Sven goes into training camp on a mission. I can't imagine he wants to go back to the AHL next year.
