The A's have acquired John Lester and Jonny Gomes for Cespedes. I don't think the A's are done yet.
I agree; I think the A's have more on the go today. And I also wouldn't be surprised if Boston did as well.
Surprised that the A's gave up Cespedes, although other than his first year, his numbers for the last two (this year and last year) are not crazy overwhelming. If Gnomes can get a little bit back on track for them....
Flickered, what do you think they do next? Trade now some of their starting pitching and/or prospects for an outfielder or 1B? Or something else?
For reference, here are Cespedes and Gnomes stats noted below:

Well I know they have been in talks about 2 different 2B men, both play in the NL East. I could see them moving a prospect(s) for an upgrade at second but I think they could move Tommy Milone and maybe even Hammel for another OFer. They are all in here so nothing would really surprise me.
Losing Cespedes takes the potential for a big bash out of the order but Cespedes is really inconsistent at the plate and his obp is .298 over his first 2 years.

yeah Cespedes is effectively no different than Jonny Gomes.
my hot take: This is a terrible trade for Boston. Like absolutely, positively terribly horrible. 1 year (effectively, since this is now a tank) plus a 2nd-3rd round turn draft pick for a legit ace rental. Its probably worth pointing out they're sending him to the place they can be most certain is only renting, but still ... he could have turned into a much better long term asset.

Yeah, its an interesting trade. Cespedes appears to a bit more "name" than "results", but who knows, maybe the park in Boston helps him a lot. He can also by-pass arbitration and go straight to free agency himself this fall too, I think (way his contract is set up or something or other)? So you have to imagine R. Sox sign him (or even trade him), but if he waked...
And yeah, looking like Milone is going....wonder what the Twins send back?
10:01am: Sam Fuld is heading back to the A’s in the trade, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN (on Twitter). Interestingly, the Twins claimed Fuld off waivers from Oakland earlier this year when he was designated for assignment. Presumably, he can form some form of platoon with the newly acquired Jonny Gomes in order to fill in for the now-departed Yoenis Cespedes.
Jeez the A's aren't ####ing around this year. Gotta give the credit to Billy for going for it, it could backfire for sure but he really is only giving up a year and a half of a guy they were probably not going to re-sign anyways. A's are definitely the favourites now if they weren't already. I'm rooting for them to pull it off.

Old Vin never runs out of stories to tell. The guy must do a ton of prep work because sitting in that booth for 3 hours every night with that much dead space to fill is a lot more difficult that one may anticipate.
No doubt the pace of Baseball does allow the veteran announces to stay around a long time. A guy like Scully has an eloquent delivery and it will be a big loss when he's no longer around to call games. Glad it won't be for at least another year.
