The irony is, this team that everyone loves so much, is the team that Feaster assembled. I feel for him, I hope he's enjoying the ride and feels a little pride in what he put together here.
I think about this all the time and more and more feel they shouldn't have fired him....and that is coming from a guy that didn't agree from day one
Russell, Colborne for late picks. Smid was a good pick up. But looking back at a deal that was one of his worst, Paul Byron is making the Regehr deal look pretty good too
Stars commentators are surprisingly even keel, they seem to call the game for the excitement of it, whether it's in the Star's favour or against them. Sounded genuinely excited for the Flames when they tied it. Also made regular compliments about the Flames and individual performances.
Take notes, CBC.
Haha. When the CBC does that for the team the flames are playing people complain that they love the opposition

It wasn't his successes he was fired for, it was his failures.
He acquired some good pieces, and while some of them were paid for by lower picks, other were paid for with big stars.
Is Byron really worth Regehr and a 2nd? No. It's nice to have him, but he'll never make good on that payment.

True, but is Burke going to draft is another Gaudreau? Poirier? With the draft coming up, have a peak at Burke's Toronto draft record. Maybe I don't know those names because I don't watch much junior/college, etc, but they're doesn't seem to be many exciting names there

Considering that we have no idea what Gaudreau or Poirier are at the NHL level it seems way too early to start wondering if Burke or anyone will draft guys like that.
At moment Burke's draft track record is much better than Feaster's.
I don't believe that. I feel like Monahan was the bigger target.
Can't find the reference, but pretty much every media source said Lindholm was the target.

Not that I want to turn this into ANOTHER convo about Feaster, but he simply trusted Button and let the draft team do their thing. Same draft team that nabbed Brodie, Backlund, and Bouma. Burke may have a bit of away, but he's admitted it's not his strong point, so I'll doubt he'll interfere with what has been working. Plus, Weisbrod was heavy on Jankowski. For a first rounder considering who was left, that was a big mistake.
Myself, I don't give Feaster any of the credit for getting Colborne or Smid either. Feaster did acquire some decent players, but he did it in such a haphazard way that I question if he had any plan. He made the team one of the smallest and least physical in the league besides his almost disaster in trying to acquire ROR.

In fairness, Feaster and Weisbrod didn't exactly play along with the media's script. It was pretty clear that, unlike Lowe, they didn't simply pick whoever was at the top of The Hockey News' prospect issue.
Also, as to an earlier comment, Colborne was obviously a Burke move from the start.
Feaster was fired for the return he got on trading our old core. I guess time will tell but those don't appear to be his strongest moves at this point.
The Flames were missing 3 of their 4 highest paid forwards, their highest paid defenceman, and highest paid goaltender. All told about 19.5 million in cap hits on a team with a total cap number of just over 50.
Dallas can't be happy about having that win get away from them lastnight.

I have to admit I was so WRONG about Bob Hartley especially late this season. During the Sven, Backlund and even Bouma's benching early in the season, I thought he was the wrong head coach to lead this team. I even predicted that Burke might pull the trigger and get rid of Hartley when the Flames was having problem scoring. Now I enjoy his coaching and would love to see the organization extend his contract. He looks positive on the bench and players seems to enjoy playing for him. I think the improvement of Backs, Colborne, Bouma, Byron and the unproven goaltenders we have was because of the entire coaching staff. Oh yeah, I also give credits to Troy Ward and rest of Abby's coaching staff for preparing the young guys to be able to play in the NHL right away.
The way they played in the 3rd period especially was a good indicator on how well the coaching staff on how well they been teaching these guys. Even before the shootout, players and coaches were happy and laughing.
Dallas fans seem classy, like their PBP announcers.

The Flames played good. It's not pathetic when you lose to a hot team.

Never underestimate the Flames.

And the Flames win. Deserved that one.
Love Monahan's game, Calgary's got a good one to build around there.
I especially like the 'Never underestimate the Flames' bit... I remember there was a time - not very long ago - when "Never underestimate the Flames" was followed by "and their lack of ability to hold a lead." Makes me feel like this team has finally turned the corner, not just in on-ice product but their perception.
