Depends on how Ramo is healing. Haven't heard any updates, but I think the Flames are supposed to be on the ice Wednesday. We'll probably find out then if an Ortio call up is imminent.
If Stempniak comes back, they would need the roster space so not sure if Breen would be recalled.
God I wish we could see these games live. Every time I follow along with these game threads I fantasize about a nice little 5000 seat arena in Airdrie or Okotoks
my fantasy is Lethbridge folds the Hurricanes and the Flames put the Heat there.
We're going to need to be patient wih Baertschi. Wouldn't surprise me if he stays in the AHL all year. Hopefully the Heat can go on a long playoff run and some of our guys really develop.
Based on play I would have to think Granlund, Reinhart, Jones and Street are all ahead of Baerstchi for a recall this year.
Based on the tone and wording from Ward's interview prior to the game today, I would not expect Baertschi getting a recall this season.
His wording suggested that Baertschi has already been told he is in the AHL for the entire year and his acceptance of this assignment is why he is finally getting some more confidence in his play and turning things around.
I cannot see the Flames recalling him and then potentially reassigning him and starting this whole "Cycle of Sven" again. Ward has made a ton of progress with him and needs more time with him to continue to get the best from him.

It's funny how many times you can just identify a CP person. One of those unsolved mysteries thing. Or we all seem to have obscure jersey choices compared to other Flames fans.

he had decent ECHL numbers and with his size and skating ability he could make a pretty good checking forward.
He had 11 points in 33 games in the ECHL. I suppose that isn't embarrassing, but most forwards who put up 0.33 PPG in the ECHL aren't being called up to the AHL unless they fight.
He's got 20 points in 137 AHL games. Brian McGrattan once put up 20 points in a season in the AHL - 66 games (with 327 PIMs). He's about a mile away from being even close to being a pretty good checking forward.

I wasn't really clear I meant an AHL checking forward (which is pro). He has zero business in the NHL unless he dramatically improves.
No question about it: Granlund, Knight and Reinhart deserve to be called up before Sven. Unless there's a huge deadline day clear out of the Flames NHL roster I think it's likely Baertschi stays on the Heat.
PMM & Drury: what is the key to Granlund's success this season? He must be in contention for AHL rookie of the year...
