It's our favourite buddy so take it with a slab of salt:

Hockey Buzz Eklund ‏@Eklund 28m
Vanek could be back in the picture for LA... gagner deal could still be saved, but it appears to be dicey...for now

Hockey Buzz Eklund ‏@Eklund 32m
Sounds like there may be trouble now with Gagner trade to LA. Another team upped their offer for gagner and kings pulling out?

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
LA-Edmtn deal could still go down, but, what's the rush? Gagner is playing well and could fetch more at deadline or at the Draft.

Colorado has likely offered Sarich based on his Marleau hit.. Edmonton gets game changing hitting and Colorado gets Gretzky-like scoring

If Gagner is playing "well" then Backlund should be a HOF shoo-in based on his recent play.

From a Calgary perspective, who would I prefer playing against Calgary? Gagner, or Clifford? I would prefer the the small, non-physical, non-defensive forward every time. Please say no LA.

Remember, Dreger may be a Nonis mouthpiece, but he's a Greaser fan.

Default Kings unlikely to resume Sam Gagner trade talks

Quote:
The struggling Kings appeared bound and determined to make a move before the Olympics. Much of the talk revolved around Edmonton Oilers forward Sam Gagner.
That particular move, still, was not close to being completed before the trade freeze.
Things always have a way of changing, but it now appears doubtful that the Kings will resume their pursuit of Gagner.

Good, Gagner and the greasers are perfect for each other.

Thats probably for the best. It seemed like a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to a slump.

I kind of want them to ship off a center so they draft one on draft day. Leaving Ekblad for the Flames... Meh. Kings will make a splash for sure. Just won't be with edmonton.

There are almost no reasonable scenarios that leave Ekblad for the Flames unless we win the lottery. And this is because it is fairly likely that somebody wins the lottery jumping ahead of both BUF and EDM and that team could be pretty likely to take Ekblad #1. I also don't think we can completely discount BUF drafting Ekblad. At this point the odds are against us drafting top 3 and therefore we have no chance at Ekblad outside of winning the lottery or dealing up.

Of course if EDM ever started winning some games that might change the standings a fair amount but how can we be confident that will ever happen?

Those odds are about the same as me becoming the King of Switzerland.

You never know, the Oilers love winning games once the pressure's off. It gets everyone excited about how good they will be next year.

This is the same team that beat the Flames on the final day of the season to finish 6th last instead of 5th last (Chicago, who won the lottery and drafted Kane). Edmonton ended up with Sam Gagner instead.

And this topic has now come full circle.

I absolutely love that they are paying him 4.8 mill a year. Insane.

Not these Oilers. They're trying to get another coach fired.
