It's strange the standard that baertschi was held to isn't held against Monahan... His play lately has had a huge drop off... Arguably much more than baertschi's did yet he has not been singled out at all.

He's playing with a broken foot. His footspeed is significantly less than it was and that causes a ripple effect throughout. Baertschi hasn't played well, but he does not have an injury excuse. That's the difference

If his injury is hampering him that much then he should not be playing.

It would have to have an impact on everyone in the room.
After watching the last two games this is exactly what i thought. It is almost as though everyone is waiting for the Burke trade hammer to come down on their heads. Whilst we all expect a number of players to be gone at the deadline, to have them walking on egg shells already is not good for this team and will only lead to more losses like the last two. Why put in the effort, and risk an injury, if your going to get shipped out at any time. Please don't throw the line of "they are professional players they should give 100% all of the time", they are human and it doesn't really work like that.

Really worried about Monahan at this point as well. Call it a slump or the wall that all rookies hit but i don't think he is 100% after his injury, I really think he has been rushed back before he needed to be. If that is the case why play him so few minutes as well??

He may have played the best of his career but he has been terrible lately.

I am not sure who told him he was Bobby Orr but his attempts to be the offensive catalyst have resulted in 0 scoring opportunities for the Flames and ton of chances for the opposition.

He has been an absolute disaster the last couple of games.

The Edmonton game was far worse. I remain as pleased with the direction of the rebuild following this loss as I was following the St. Louis win. There was no lack of effort, only a lack of connecting passes and finish and a huge lack of skill relative to one of the hottest teams in the league. I expect these types of games on a bottom five rebuilding team, far more of them than we have seen this year. Stinker, yes. Unexpected or unacceptable or worse game of the season? No.

This team is way to easy to play against. I'm glad we got rid of Feaster when they did. He just acquired way to many of the same type of player, kind of like how the Oilers are.

Commence fire sale!
That will happen on any team when they are eliminated from the playoffs before Christmas; what else does a veteran player have to look forward to every season except playoffs? It's why they play the game. Young guys still have the zeal of proving themselves & figuring where they fit in the hockey world so it's easier for them to stay engaged until the end of the season.

There are a few older guys in the league that have "Been there, done that"; made their multi-millions & are satisfied with their roles as mentor/father figures ala Ryan Smyth but those guys are not many.

Burke must be in one of his worst moods to date since taking over president duties back in the summer after losing by two shutouts to Vancouver and Edmonton...

This I agree with.

Why on Earth are they making him play through that? The playoffs are obviously out of reach, and I don't think he has enough of a chance of winning the Calder to make the risk of playing him worth it.

Probably has to do with one guy being 19 and the other 21. As well Monahan plays a better 200 ft game than Sven and has produced close to the same numbers in half a season so he is likely going to get more rope than Sven will.

But I think you are wrong saying he hasn't been singled out. Many people in GTs and PGTs have commented on Monahan recent play.

There is no extra risk or "additional damage" to worry about playing through his particular injury. Monahan is getting to learn how to play through things, and getting to learn that even with an injury, you are expected to perform or you end up centring Gratts.

If it gets too bad I'm sure they'll sit him, but for now he continues to get experience that will hopefully help him a few years from now when he gets hurt and will have to play through some meaningful games.

Way too much sadness on here after 2 horrible games. It's a rebuild, momma said there be days like this, and they aren't even getting blown out. They will play better again shortly, and they are going to have a few more patches like this again before the season is done.

Yeah way too sad after these losses, it is a rebuild and an injury plagued one at that.

The Oilers game was boring and they got screwed since that should have been a goal. 1-0 lead and that game can be completely different.

Last night they got beat by a much better team who is riding a huge hot streak and even then they kept it close and showed some push back in the third period.

I like his meanness but honestly, I have to agree.

The attempts at spinoramas make me cringe.

A brutal night from him, I can't wait until he is gone.
