Why has no one yet brought up the clear answer to all our sunlight issues: partnering with the Russians to put giant mirrors into space to keep the northern latitudes lit all thru the winter.

That's why the liquor store charges so much for ice, they know people will pay it just to avoid the hassle.

Didn't JK say this wasn't going to happen recently? Glad to see they actually care about our opinions, hopefully this survey will actually be used to GET RID OF daylight savings time. Hopefully it's also a case of JK saying one thing (on ideological grounds) and Albertans telling him another.

I heard that the last time people were surveyed (a couple years ago, likely in this thread?), 74% voted to get rid of the time changes, and a few groups basically didn't want it so they ignored the results and kept the time changes. Hopefully this is the end of the stupidity.

If I remember correctly, organizations like the Oilers and Flames complained because of TV slot positions and all of that. I'm sure corporations will have their frustrations with any change.

The aversion to clicking the New Thread button continues to baffle me.
Any way, my opinion on the matter remains unchanged. I would like to see it ended, but only on a national scale. Not piecemeal.

The Province asks for our feedback... Doesn't provide anywhere on the form to provide feedback. That pretty much says it all right there.
Since they didn't give me any way to give them my actual thoughts on this, I had to vote to keep things the way they are.
My opinion on this hasn't changed since this thread was originally started 6 years ago, or since the NDP discussed this 2 years ago... We should be aligned with the rest of North America. As long as everyone else switches, we should keep switching. If everyone else stops switching, we should stop switching. It doesn't make any sense to be out-of-step with the rest of the country/continent. That causes as many, if not more, problems than switching the clocks twice a year does.
Also, I don't think we should automatically default to Daylight time year-round if we do stop switching. If BC and the western States all decide to stay on Pacific Daylight time year-round, there's some logic in aligning with them and staying on Mountain Standard time.
If you look at a time zone map, most of Alberta should actually be in the Pacific time zone anyway. The dividing line between GMT-7 (Mountain) and GMT-8 (Pacific) is at 112.5°W, which is just west of Bassano.

Flames and Oilers were not in favor as were several large businesses. WestJet being among them IIRC as it messes with their scheduling if some places have DST and others do not.
Let's hope they keep things the way they are.

Apparently it's better for out bodies if we stick with winter hours.

Quote:
But Myriam Juda, a Simon Fraser University research associate in the Department of Psychology, says it’s much better for our health to stay on the time we set our clocks back to every fall.
“Our biological clock and circadian rhythm need morning light exposure,” she said. “If we don’t get light in the morning, our clock drifts to a later time so it gets harder and harder to wake up.”
Juda adds that sleep deprivation and disruption of circadian rhythm are both associated with health problems such as diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and depression.
“Not to mention fatigue and the risk of accidents that comes when you’re fatigued,” she added.
Juda and SFU professor Ralph Mistlberger have now written a letter to the premier’s office in support of permanent Standard Time.
The letter cautions that if DST is kept year-round, sunrise would be later in the winter, leading to 67 days with decreased exposure to morning sunlight compared to permanent Standard Time.
“If we are on permanent Daylight Saving Time, let’s say in December, the sun would only rise at 9 a.m.,” Juda said. “So we would not get enough morning light exposure.”

we just had some online vote thing here in bc about this. but like getbak said above - all of north america has to be on board with this for it to make sense.
i know in bc the government said 'we need to wait and see what they do in the u.s.'

I would love for one time all year round. don't care which time it is, just no more clock changing.
Saskatchewan seems to have suffered no ill effects. don't see why it would be a big deal if we do it before the Americans do.
and I don't care if the oilers and flames don't like it.
