I haven't been following this thread closely, so I'm not sure if anyone pointed this out or has noticed, but the chamfer radius of the building's corners gets larger as the building rises. The facade corners are a single piece of rounded glass.
The crown uses similar rounded panels of glass at the peak when it bends back downward toward the roof.
It's going to be a nice addition to the skyline for sure. I just wish it was a little taller to distance itself from the other three towers that are in the same ballpark. Don't want to make downtown look like Vancouver where all the towers are the same height (yes I know it's because of restrictions).

I didn't know Vancouver had restrictions on the height of their towers.

Ya Vancouver has all sorts of restrictions, in addition to the height one they also have lots of protected views and things like that so you end up with some different designs.

Edmonton used to have a height restriction due to the Municipal airport, now that it is gone they are wide open and currently building what will be the tallest tower outside of Toronto when done (Stantec). It will be 3.8m taller than Brookfield, but in my opinion is a far poorer looking tower than Brookfield, The Bow, and Telus Sky which will all be up there with it.

Tallest tower outside of Edmonton, being built in Edmonton. Woah!

Hoesntly Brookfield is nothing to write home about. It's pretty plain Jane, it's just tall.

Telus Sky will be the one to watch as an awesome new building. Did you know that the same building is being built in Vancouver, just vertically reversed? I thought that was cool.

I think the detail and quality of Brookfield at least makes it better than Stantec, and I know I'm speaking before Stantec even starts to rise from ground level (think it's close though). The glass looks fantastic, the rounded corners radius increasing is a neat visual effect, and hopefully the crown looks sharp and lights up real nice.

But yeah, Telus Sky is the one I'm most excited about. And yup I knew about their Vancouver tower that is very similar to it and a flip.

Brookfield looks very boring. I don't know anyone else who thinks otherwise.

Well you know me on here, I don't think it's boring. It's a simple, well done box (rectangle if you want to get picky).

Imagine how sexy Telus Sky would have been at 275 - 280M!

I've heard lots say they like the look of it with the rounded corners and pure glass look, along with the height. I guess it's an anecdotal stand off!

IMO it's nicer than the Bow which is nothing but a taller version of Toronto's city hall. Brookfield has a lot of modern tower styling cues.

I really like how Brookfield looks like from the East and West views. It looks so slim and sleek. N/S makes it look pretty plain and boxy but if the crown lights up it'll be a nice addition to the skyline at night. It also fills a hole in the most popular view of our skyline:

Also I saw on skyscraperspage that Telus Sky has risen above ground level! That puts to rest my fear of them capping it at grade cause of the recession and all of vacancy downtown.

There are a number of towers in downtown that were capped at grade and never got started back up again. The south block of The Bow was supposed to be rebuilt from the bricks of the old York Hotel. That was capped at grade and is just a parking garage. First Canadian Centre is another one, the north-west corner of 2 Street and 7 Avenue.

Are there any instances of previously capped-at-grade projects being restarted and completed? Or is it basically a death sentence to the project once the at-grade cap is complete?

This might be the most ridiculous thing I've seen said about The Bow.

So is anyone going to be in Brookfield when it opens?

Cenovus isn't planning on moving anyone over, what about the other floors?

That it looks like a taller version of Toronto city hall? Sorry but that styling isn't original. It's not terrible but it's no work of art and not going through with the original height left it looking like a boring wide building from certain angles.

That's excellent! And I don't think they could really cut back on the design either as it's so unique, right? I know buildings in other cities that have been taller in design and because of simplicity they were able to budget cut a bunch of floors off.

I would imagine Telus Sky was either going to get built pretty much exactly how it was proposed or not at all.

The only one that may qualify would be the Arriva towers in Beltline. Tower 2 and 3 capped at grade after Torode went bankrupt, site purchased by Nic Hon and he has since built the two Guardian towers on the site.

FCC2 has had two new design proposals since I started skyscraper geeking out in 2005. Both have amounted to nothing though.

Strategic bought the site that is almost at grade on 10th avenue and Macleod trail and has plans to build a tower there, working name of the development is "One".

Edit: Oh and on 10th avenue and 8th street area of Beltline the two towers that have gone up west of Mark on 10th. They were also from a capped project. Yet another one pops into my head! The Metropolitan condo on 11th avenue by the Midtown Co-op. Another grade capped one that eventually went ahead with a different design.

The Mid Town one was a little different as it was stalled out a few floors above grade and then they completely changed and rezoned it from a condo tower to a short office block. I'm trying to remember but I don't think they even added any floors to it. (were talking about the one beside Tantra/Mansion/Rodneys, right?)
