Their drafting has been bad, but the development has been worse. They don't teach their young players how to play, and don't insulate them and put them in positions to succeed.
They throw them on the ice (sometimes injured) and expect their skill to overwhelm teams.
Look at Tom Gilbert. They paid him $4 million/year and let him be lazy and soft defensively...he had to take a PTO this summer because no NHL team wanted him.
Let young players do whatever they want...this is the result. That's why no matter how much individual talent there is on that team they'll never contend.
