Now wouldn't they be called "daggits", at least that is what I think I remember from the original series?

What a memory you have . . . . and what is this little boy doing to this dagggit?
Anyhoo, in the new Battlestar, I think we'll be seeing real dogs, instead of mechanical ones.

It was only a mechanical one because Apollo's kid's daggit was killed in the invasion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daggit
I remember the scene - Boxey calling, the daggit (a german shepherd) running towards him, then explosions all around and they had to leave.

It must have scarred you for life to remember that kind of detail . . . . .
In this case, I think the dog will just be a dog, just like the Hummer was just a Hummer.
Meanwhile, webisode 8 is up on youtube for non-USA viewers, for a while anyway. . . . . a clear inverted reference to Iraq . . . . followed by a season three preview

Nooo! I just rented season 2 and haven't watched it yet!
And what's season 2.5? Is that the web stuff? They had those for rent too.

The second season was actually divided into two sets of DVDs, with season 2.5 being the last 10 episodes. The last episode of the first half (episide 10) ends with a cliffhanger, so you're going to want to pick up 2.5 right away.

Season 2.0 was the first 10 episodes of the second season. Season 2.5 was just released on DVD in September. Not sure if you can rent it yet but you can buy it for sure.
The webisodes are 10 mini-moments of about 3-5 minutes each, giving backfill to lead into Season 3, but they're not essential.

Last splurge before the season three debut . . . . some fun reading without huge spoilers.
Chicago Tribune . . . . . mild spoiler alert:
Ronald D. Moore, executive producer of "Battlestar Galactica," says his favorite scene in the powerful 2-hour season opener is between Gaius Baltar, the reviled Marshal Petain of New Caprica, and Laura Roslin, his political nemesis and resistance sympathizer.
"Going into that scene, I think there's an assumption of whose side you're on," Moore says. "But when he starts challenging her on the morality of suicide bombing ... it throws her off stride, and I think it throws the audience off stride too. I think, for a moment, you're really not sure where you're supposed to go emotionally in that scene and I think that's a great place to take an audience."
That's been "Battlestar Galactica's" strength from the beginning -- using believable characters to explore personal morality and political choices, while avoiding predictable polemics or easy resolutions. Though the first part of the season has echoes of the situation in Iraq, the debates among the humans and the Cylons are universal to any conflict -- what tactics are legitimate in a fight over core beliefs? Are any methods acceptable? In the end, what is worth fighting for?

Should we post a/another spoiler warning in here, or start a new Season 3 spoiler thread?

That was an amazing two hours of T.V., there were more twists and turns then a badly designed stretch of road. The character development was amazing.
SPOILER WARNING
It seems pretty apparent that the cylon caved in that little girls head to win over Kara.
Great CGI on making Apollo into a huge tub of lard.
Nice attachment in the series and current world events with the low light cam.
Wow, I say just wow.

Yeah that really is amazing television. So much subtext its tough to actually get your head around it all. It will be interesting to see if they have actually killed off any main characters in that final scene.

Warning: Everything below is a spoiler.
Well, Roslin obviously survies the final scene, since they showed her in the preview for next week's episode. I liked the dynamic that was developing between her and the vice-president (I forget his name now) at the end there. That could get interesting as the season progresses.
I agree with the above that the Cylon likely hurt the child on purpose. I have a feeling, though, that he is not winning over Kara like he thinks he is. I imagine its a ploy on her part. I could see her somehow escaping with the child; stabbing him and running out of the hospital or something like that.
I was wondering about the part where the Cylon started shooting at Sharon and the resistance fighters in the bushes after she first met up with them. Did the Cylon notice that Sharon was helping the resistance? Is the jig up now? Will the Cylons know that one of the Sharons is a traitor? That could make for some interesting witch-hunts within the Cylon ranks.
I also like the way they're building up for the Adama's return and attack on the Cylons. When he finally does return, that's going to be one hell of an episode.

You shouldn't have to worry about spoilers in this thread . . . . . the episode has aired in both Canada and the USA now.
Let 'er rip!!
The word "amazing" has already been used twice but how can you not use it again . . . . an incredibly layered two hours of television and well worth the wait of months since the end of the last season.
Wow.
Lee Adama's fatty look was actually, in real life production, the same suit used during Sharon's pregnancy.
Memo To Self: Anytime Kara Thrace sits quietly with her hands folded neatly in her lap and gives you a shy, impish upturn of the lips . . . . immediately jump 20 feet back as violent death is surely stalking you closely!!
The Leoben/Starbuck mind game thing was something you knew was coming given their similar encounter in season one and you knew those missing ovaries would put in an appearance at some point . . . . . incredibly well done. I assume Leoben mercilessly threw the kid down the stairs to engender Starbuck's reaction . . . . . but I would also assume Starbuck, at the end, placing her hand over Leoben's, will turn out to be a ploy on her part as well. They're both sinister and well-matched.
"Yes, before you ask, the eye is gone. Plucked it right out of my head and showed it to me . . . . looked like a hard-boiled egg" - Colonel Tigh with a great line.
Kate Vernon was terrific, even sympathetic to some extent . . . . .
Dean Stockwell is a great addition. Pure, merciless and ironic evil. But Lucy Lawless seems to be waivering . . . .
The gunfire erupting at the end with Cally running through the forest will probably be Jammer turning on his masters . . . .
Lots to talk about but I've got to drive a few hours for my turkey.
