Someone mentioned Perry Berezan, he might be a decent choice.

He was doing the play by play for the roughnecks last season so he does have experience calling games, but ya, would not be a great move at all for the new colour guy, I always like having ex nhlers that lend experiences to their commentaries for the colour commentary position.

He's got a pretty serious career going - I don't think he would put that on hold to do broadcasting.

I hear Rhett is being looked at to fill the job. Not sure if he's the only option but I would put my money on him.

Pepper- See that kid, Jiri Slegr? Did you know that he is the son of long time Vancouver Canuck Jiri Bubla?
Whittman- No. Why the different last names?
Pepper- Well he probably doesn't want people to know that Jiri Bubla is his Father.
Whittman- Oh, why would that be?
Pepper- Jiri Bubla is serving life in a Turkish prison for smuggling Heroin.
Whittman- Wow Jim, how much Heroin was it?
Pepper- I would imagine quite a lot.
I don't think Pepper ended up getting any TV work after that WJC.

Big rumour in Saskatoon is the board of governors will turn down the sale of the Blades and the Warrener/Chase bid will again be the front runner.

He was the colour guy for the '91 series vs. Edmonton too.

The mind-boggling thing is that what he said was nearly true. Jiri Bubla is indeed Jiri Slegr's father, and (at least according to Wikipedia; their source is a dead link to the Prague Post) he was busted for trafficking heroin in 1987. However, it was an Austrian prison, not a Turkish one, and he only served four years.
If you ask me, that's a hell of a lot more interesting colour commentary than 'So-and-so is a great prospect who always gives 110 percent while playing a 200-foot game one shift at a time'.

It's likely me that made the mistake not Pepper. It's tough to remember a 23 year old conversation verbatim. The best part was when they abruptly went into a commercial break while the puck was still in play.
But seriously, Pepper was a terrible colour man.

I am sure it is true and the poster has their Euro prisons mixed up. And as was shown, Peplinski did just fine after that as far as getting broadcast time.
Obviously long before the internet, but I am sure Peplinski had sources or kept on top of the news. His stories and comments in game, wouldn't fly today; viewers are far too sensitive.
One noteable comment was, was when he lambasted a fan for getting hit in the face with the puck something to the effect of, "I don't mean to be insensitive, but it always seems to be some woman gabbing to her friend and not paying attention to the play on the ice that gets hit by the puck"
The fact that he would do Oilers games and Flames games as the color guy for CBC for those few seasons, let alone that 1991 series between the two, must have driven Oiler fans nuts given the pure hate he showed on the ice to that team in the 80's fighting Semenko, Hunter, McLellan etc.

Alas, yes. Which is why we get to listen to all that crap about giving 110 percent while playing a 200-foot game one shift at a time.

Well I don't know about you, but I can never tell who is giving 110 percent, so it's nice to have someone to point me in right direction.

Thanks.
I always thought Peplinski was fine as a colour man. I think he'd be an excellent choice to replace Rogers. He's intelligent (despite comments to the contrary), articulate, and he has a sense of humour.
