I think he gets it:
Kristin Hallett@Kristin_Hallett14 Jun
In the presser, Feaster joked that he's "been to a therapist and it is indeed a rebuild."

He might be traded to the Leafs.
He might opt to retire instead.
He's leaning towards retirement.
He's retired.
Dialogue stays open to bring him out of retirement.
He didn't retire.
Kipper says tell the Flames he's retired
Columbus is trying to lure him out of retirement.
As Calgary said before he hasn't retired.
No official announcement on retirement.
Calgary will keep talking to him about retirement.
Love Kipper but for God's sakes let's get some official work in front of a camera in the North American media please.

That's what I was taking from it... Kipper isn't officially retired until he files his papers with the NHLPA, it doesn't matter what he's told anybody until that happens and if the process isn't complete they (The Flames) can't officially announce anything.

I will never understand the purpose of making crap up just so that you can feel superior to someone else. It's sad and pathetic, really.
Of course Feaster knows the answer. He said it outright in his statement by noting that the report does not come as a surprise while his goaltending signings recently have made it obvious the Flames know he isn't coming back. But likewise, he isn't going to confirm a third-party report until he talks again to Kipper and they arrange a more official announcement.

It has nothing to do with feeling superior. Sorry to disappoint you.
It could be interpreted as what Parallex said. I initially interpreted it a different way. That is all. Don't get too excited, Resolute.

To the end Kipper helped his team. Hall of fame career as far as I'm concerned & now we're gifted with a shot at a top prospect - and there's no shame in that.

hahaha nice. In many languages (using soccer references) the goal is called the gate.
Goal = gate/castle
Goalkeeper = gate/castle guard/defender
In Chinese it's 守门员
Literally "Observe Door Member"

No,it sounds like Feaster is acting appropriately and professionaly. I know everyone on here is gushing over "how cool" it is that Kipper makes backhanded comments and is "too awesome" to hold a press conference and just "tells it like it is" in real casual conversations. I agree, I like much of that attitude about him, his laid back demeanor is pretty cool.
But, the retirment of as many have said, one of the greatest Flames of all time, and a multi million dollar employee isn't something you take lightly. Good for the Flames for not jumping on something until Kipper actually officially informs them and lets them know his decision, versus jumping to conclusions because Kipper made some off hand comment to someone in Finland versus directly too him.
Kipper owes the Flames an official decision that he communicates to them directly, not just saying something over in Finland in hopes the twitisphere sends it to Calgary, and if he hasn't done that (and it appears he hasn't) then Feasters comments are completely appropriate. He knows what's likely to happen, but he'd be an idiot to announce anything until Kipper does him the courtesy of an official notification.

^ You are right CSW, when I first read the quote, I was wondering what the hell... guess I didn't think of it from a management POV how to proceed. Didn't give it very much though, sorry for those who got very upset by my comment.

TSN has a video interview with Feaster on this. The Finnish report is a statement from Kipper that is a few months old, not a new development

The man radiated confidence. Clearest memory for whatever reason, is one game in Colorado about 3 or 4 years back, some Avs player took a shot just before the end of the 1st period. Kipper literally kicked at the puck because he was that confident that the period would be over a second before the period ended.
He deserves this retirement in light of him having basically carried the world which is the Calgary Flames organization and its fans.

I think one other reason the flames might not want to announce it until he files papers is that he could be having conversations with Kippers agent and other teams about being traded for cap hit and suspended ala Thomas. If his agent has indicated that this is a possibility than the flames need to keep towing the party line of he hasn't retired yet.

There's any number of reasons to not come out and say he's retired if you're the Flames. Not a one of them has to do with organizational incompetence or someone not knowing the proper protocols.

A little story. Growing up in Van-city, I would idolize players like Naslund and Sakic. Mr younger brother was always strange. He was a goaltender, but small and skinny. When we shared a room, the sakic poster on my wall would be opposite to the roy poster on his wall, and the naslund poster would be opposite to none other than kipper.
My bro has never lived in Calgary, never even watched hockey until he watched the first round of the flames canucks series in 2004. But he "fell in love" with kipper, wearing 34 with every team he played for and he would always say in his quiet, cute voice: "KIpper!" everytime he made a save, never looking at the score. He's still jealous of that Kipper Kid guy that went to the Saddledome quite often back in the day. He would always say: "He's doing it wrong. Kipper is way cooler!"
My brother is in high school now, and when he read this article, he was devastated, even with the month-old speculation happening. I asked him if there's another tendy he likes, but he says that kipper was irreplacable.
Knowing what you did for my brother's love of the game of hockey, and his hours of practicing while he dreams to one day inherit the torch of being a Calgary Flame goaltender, i am indebted to you kipper. Enjoy your retirement. I will even miss the stops you made on my beloved nucks of old. Legendary
