Considering that this is exactly what they look out for in that test (to determine a players strength in adversity etc.) I think Nichushkin hasn't boosted his stock at all.

Seems really weird watching half-naked 17-18 year old athletes do random exercises on the NHL Network. Not really my cup of tea...

He didn't quit with a minute left. Duration is part of the test. Some can go for 14+ minutes, most go for far less. The average is in the 10 min range

Also, TSN didn't even show Monahan's VO2 test; they showed his Wingate

Thanks for this. The video is misleading. Monahan finished and they congratulated him. Nichushkin stopped and waved his hand while someone said "one more minute" which led me to believe there was a set duration.

I wouldn't buy too much into these tests and hopefully the Flames are smart enough not to either. Nichushkin said on TSN he'd never done a test like that before - something I'd imagine is pretty common for any European born player today. If the NHL is anything like the NFL, a big name Canadian guy like Monahan playing in a major market in like Ottawa has to have his agent instructing him to train specifically for the tests at the combine. That's going to have a huge affect on his results.

I could be wrong in all this, but I'd be very shocked if Canadian kids aren't all training for the specific combine tests immediately once their season's end.

Monahan had 25 push ups. The Average from last year was 30.

Push ups are like the benchpress, guys with long arms have a lot of trouble with them.

I find it hard to believe 30 was average last year, this year must be a weak group because average won't be anywhere near 30.

They are shoulder width push ups(hands directly below the shoulders), they place a roll of duck tape under your upper chest which you can't touch and your chin must go below the tape. I think it's a time limit as well.
