I love jersey/logo discussion threads.
From a guy who doesn't pay too much attention to the jerseys, the dissection of every thread on the jersey is quite funny.
But in the interest of not coming off like a pompous ass, I'll add my two cents. I like them.

The trend happening right now of all the uniforms looking like different coloured versions of Leafs / Team Canada uni's is horrible.
Don't get me wrong, I like the traditional uniform design, BUT with so many teams switching to this look it is ruining them for me. They are so vanilla and homogenized.
Phoenix, Carolina, Dallas, it's like they have given up on any flavour and are using a beer league uniform template that let's them choose a colour and insert crest and shoulder patches here.

Overall i like them, clean not too cluttered would just had some gold trim on the logo like AC suggested.
Nice look Dallas has i think, much better than the new Carolina jersey's.

I don't get the Whalers connection. Other than the colour green, they are nothing like the old Whalers jerseys, and its not even the same shade of green.

See that's the thing. Hockey uniforms are supposed to be pretty simple. Historically the only variations have been number of vertical stripes, thickness of stripes, and presence or absence of shoulder yoke. What is supposed to differentiate teams from each other is team colours and unique but simple logos, not wild and funky patterns on their uniforms.

I understand the historical tradition of hockey uniforms and am not a huge fan of "wild and funky patterns" but the Dallas and Carolina uniforms are lame.

No. Here are some amateur looking logos (ex. Ice Hogs, River Rats, Chops, Pirates, Bears):

If they did something with that on the front of the jersey but without the stupid circle containing text (WAY overdone) then it would be pretty decent.

Well looks like they listened to me! A lot thought the circle was going to go on the front. I'm glad they went with the black outlined star. It's not the best, but it's much better than the other way around.

I think dropping the gold is an odd choice because they've always used it in their colour scheme. Their first few jerseys didn't have gold stripes, but their logo had some.
Dropping down from 4 to 3 colours only works if you're going for a retro throwback style. But the Stars don't really have that option, save for the North Stars.

Definitely an upgrade over the wordmark, but I think the logo would look much better without that bevel inside. Don't like dropping the gold either. Here are my attempts, hope you like them ...

On a purely personal level, I can't look at that shade of green without feeling a little nauseated. I blame the Triamatic Green medicine I had to take as a kid, which was the same shade of green. It always made me want to puke, and it basically ruined the colour green for me.

Honestly, the new Dallas logo belongs in this collection, and not in the top half if I were ranking them.
The striping and solid green jersey colour help, but it just can't save that logo.

A few notes from the event.
- The Dallas stars have one of the largest geographic footprints in the NHL. They are planning preseason games in San Antonio, talking visiting New Orleans, and want to increase viewership in Oklahoma, Austin, and Houston. As part of that they wanted to include something more "southern" in the design.
- The new owner wanted a new color of green - the old green was (according to him) a holdover from Min, and represented a more northern forest green. He wanted a Texas green - this green is apparently known as "Victory Green" and is not used elsewhere in the NHL.
- There was much discussion about dropping the gold. Initially they thought it looked good on the logo, but once the full jersey was put together they felt simplicity was the way to go. It was also noted by a vocal member of the audience that the Stanley cup is silver, not gold.
- One of the first things the new ownership did when taking over the franchise was start to look for a logo. The Stars haven't had one since switching to the black jerseys in 2009.
- There were 236 different designs considered over the course of several months. Input came from both within the organization, as well as season ticket holders.
- The logo itself has shading as part of the actual stitching. The discussion indicated that this sort of stitching was a relatively recent development, and allowed them to make a single color logo. They mentioned that the inclusion of a gold trim somewhat took away from this shading, so it was part of the reason the gold was dropped.
The event was held in the Winspear Opera house. I'd say about 1500 people were there. It was open bar top to bottom, so the response to the jerseys was enthusiastic to say the least. Lots of pre-orders after the event.
I was pursuing a tray of mini-hamburgers with my 4th beer, and bumped into a guy who looked a lot like Mark Recchi with less hair. Turns out it was Mark Recchi, who co-owns the Blazers with Gaglardi. He liked the jerseys too.

I don't know what some of you find amateurish about the logo. It's a D that represents Dallas, surrounded by a star that represents the team name. It's simple, classic and awesome. It's similar to the Flames logo in that it's a C that represents Calgary that is on fire which represents the Flames name. What did some of you want? A circle logo with the skyline of Dallas on a backdrop of stars, surrounded by "Dallas Stars Hockey Club" all inside a map of Texas? Because that would be lame.

Twitter rumor - DAL interested in Tortarella.
@theScore: The Dallas Stars are interested in John Tortorella for their vacant head coach position. http://t.co/G3ggft1ieK
