I would think the Rangers would fire Torts before buying out Richards. Give him one more year to prove his contract. Seriously what the hell happened to him.
I think what happened to him is that he has already mentally moved on. He knows he is going to get bought out so what does he care? Hes probably tired of Torts on top of it.
Either way, he gets paid.

Once Torts is gone, i believe Richards will be back to normal. They will not buy him out this year, but if he has another bad year then he will be bought out.
I think they have to buy him out this year or there is no other option? I'm going to have to plead ignorance on the intricacies of the new CBA but I thought the amnesty buyout period was this summer and thats it?

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.

Each team has up to 2 buyouts. They can use it this year or the year after. NY only has one left because of Redden buyout.
why does Ron Maclean still have a job, he was probably sobbing as he wrote this
They love him in Toronto but he really needs to be booted from HNIC. He's friends with Richards so obviously his view is slanted abut I have a hard time beliving that all the Rangers problems are all of a sudden Tortorella's fault. Since 2002 he's only had one season with any team with a losing record (the year he got fired in Tampa). Maybe his shelf life is close to expiry with that team but I'm not buying that all of a sudden he's a bad coach. All they did this year was switch Gaborik for Nash which IMO is a wash and they still won a playoff round and are simply up against a far better hockey team in the Bruins.
Why is it always the coaches fault when players disappear? Like it was AV's fault that the Sedins have been playoff no-shows for the past two years? It was always the coaches fault in Calgary when the Flames would cave in late in the season when the playoff races were tight. It's the coaches fault that a career loser like Nash still isn't a winner on a different team? It's the coaches fault that Richards stinks?
Sorry Ron but your buddy simply hasn't played well and he should be looking in the mirror and you should stick to being Cherry's sidekick and shut your trap.
Ricahrds has been invisible during the playoffs so far. Why on earth should he not eb scratched? Ass far as Tots goes, Hes done in NY. Not because he necessarily a bad coach but more to the effect that his message has gotten stale like AV's in Van.

Hard to score when you're playing on the 4th line. Torts has handled this badly and will be out of a job after tonight.
Ronnie is right, Torts is a total tool. Good for him.
