As I mentioned I don't think that it means this guys will all be surefire NHL stars, it just means that they know what they need to do to win when it matters, know how to step up, and that helps build a winning culture.

Even Kobasew was a 20 goal scorer for us, a member of our 2004 cup run, and it is stated that losing Kobasew and Ference in 2007 (two guys that knew how to step up in big games) was a huge turning point for the culture of our dressing room.

I just think having that experience helps build the proper culture in your dressing room, the culture that when combined with the right elements leads to a winning team.

I guess a counter point would be the Oilers though who had Eberle and Hall with proven big game pedigree put up gooseeggs when the games mattered down the stretch.

Just a homer thing. Midway through the third, on the jumbotron they showed 6 candidates for the 3 stars that you could vote on by texting. 4 of the 6 were Wild players with Macdonald and Backlund the only Flames choices.

I'm just surprised Heatley didn't get one...

One of the big differences here is that when Chuck Kobasew was making his NHL debut, he and Oleg Saprykin were pretty much the only NHL prospects the Flames had. There are a whole bunch of intriguing players in the system now; many more so than compared to 2003.
