Too bad that Salo picture doesn't go back to 2000 when he missed some games due to complications after being bitten by a snake.

To compare 1.5 seasons of Backlund playing ~50% of games, to Salo being injured for lengthy periods of his career, is nonsensical.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you really don't know what you're talking about.

a small hairline fracture is unlikely to be made worse and depending where it is it can be surprisingly painless.

Only mikecho, who posted those images knows why he posted them and therefore knows if "I know what I'm talking about".

But without confirmation, I'm still sticking with that as being the comparison being made. Don't be so sad about it.

Look at Crosby over the last few seasons - he's had a terrible string of luck/injuries. Obviously his pedigree is going to keep Pittsburgh from moving him, but by your logic, the Pens should have considered trading him because he was getting injured too often.

Backlund has taken a meaningful step forward this season, and it would be a mistake at this point for the Flames to trade their most promising young center.
LOL.... you honestly just compared Crosby to Backlund?!?!?!?! That's awesome! Crosby wasn't riddled with injuries the first few years of his career and even if he was, they are two different players.

Come on, now you're just trying to say things for the sake of saying them.

I want to know about these "high quality players" who've missed that much time that early in their careers. The kid has played 150 NHL games and has missed over 50.... play 3 miss 1, play 3 miss 1? The kid has been injured too often to even have a chance at being called a "high quality player" by anyone other than homeristic fans. He hasn't played enough because of his injuries, and when they're happening that frequently you have to wonder why? If it's not his fault that he gets injured, then it's bad luck and we don't need any more of that.

Hey, maybe you can compare him to Lemieux too, didn't he miss some substantial time too????

Reading your comments on here that you have some sort of bond with Backlund and feel the need to defend him.

Examples of high quality young players that were injured early in their careers? David Perron, Niklas Backstrom (WSH), Spezza, Gaborik. I can cherry pick plenty players who have been injured often during their career. But that's not the point, because they aren't Backlund. Just like Sami Salo isn't Backlund, just like Crosby or Lemiuex aren't Backlund - but I like the sarcasm in your post, it really helps get the point across that you've completely missed what I've been saying in my last several posts.

The point I am trying to make, is that we still do not know what we have in Backlund. To give up and trade him is a mistake - especially given the encouraging signs he's shown this year. Do you actually think that trading Backlund at this point would get you anything? The team is better served to develop him and have patience.

The knives truly are out on the board right now.

You know what? The Flames aren't a good team, but it sure isn't Backlund's fault that we are fighting for a lottery pick, he's been one of the few bright spots this season. Its getting to the point that you can't have a rational conversation anymore.

Just watched the Hartley interview. Sounds like Backs is gonna be a game time decision still.

And listening to Backs, it sounds like he's considering himself in the lineup.

I think we kind of do know what we have in Backlund, that is a 2nd line center at best, but not an ideal 3rd line center. To me, Backlund is kind of like Matt Stajan, not a bad guy to have in your lineup, but not an impact player. Meh...

Sometimes it's not all about what you get back in a trade. Backlund has a specific skill set that limits his effectiveness to certain roles (specifically top two line center). If you can't rely on Backlund to stay healthy produce ~20 goals and 50+ points, there's not much of a loss.

It's not Backlund's fault per se, but his inability to stay healthy and ultimately produce offensively (total production) contributes to the team's problems. If every year the team pencils him in as the team's 2nd line center and every year he misses half the season, how good do you think the team's going to be?

Looks like Backlund may not play tonight vs Dallas. Probably against NSH then.

Roger Millions ‏@RogMillions
