I'm pretty sure it's not his play its his conditioning they gave him the night off to take a break coming off his injury he is not in nhl shape yet .

I know he likely won't, and I know some see Aliu as nothing more than an AHL plug, but I hope he gets a real good look here.

He's a BIG kid, skates real well, hits like a freight train, is 23 (I like youthful enthusiasm) and seems fearless.

He's not a savior, but everything he seems to bring, this team needs desperately IMO.

Agree, although I think what you are trying to categorize is "wanting or excited to be there". Which too many of our Vets have gone complacent on.

Has anyone else pondered the idea that if the Flames can keep it together enough to be within striking distance, that they might be able to make some noise when Kipper gets back?

I know he was a little mediocre to start the season but he was playing really well right before his injury.

I know it is a lot of question marks but I think if you get Backlund and Kipper back, and Iginla starts potting some goals, this team might be pretty solid.

Just my thoughts.

Aliu played well. Awesome hit on Stoner!

Baertschi was good. Almost scored a couple times. He is exciting to watch.

Stempniak played well, had a few excellent opportunities.

Bouwmeester and Stajan were fantastic.

Joey Mac was solid and full value for the win.

Go Flames Go! Next game is only 16 hours from now.

How was Rick Ball tonight? I was watching but not listening as I was in a loud poker room.

You're falling into the yearly trap man!

Rick Ball was good IMO. Much better than listening to Kerr or Mark Lee.

Great game from Stajan and Bouwmeester. Nice to see the two CP whipping boys having a good season.

On that note, man is the constant Comeau bashing getting annoying. Game thread, and most other FOI threads, are getting hard to read as it's just relentless. Special mention to Burtuzzied and puckluck for hoping he was injured when he got hit. What a pair of classless dinks. You guys are embarressing.

Stajan was very good again. Clutch this game.

Iggy was solid ... again

Aliu delivered the early emotion. Jackman seemed to play better being reminded he is a plug with a job to do.

MacDonald made key saves

Glencross was way less lazy

Good to see Hartley scratch Cervenka, he has shown skill with the puck but his game without has been lacking.

Solid defensive game all around. Very few mistakes and they obviously discussed the d zone lapses that killed them vs LA. Kudos Hartley. Very good stick positioning and way less in the way of guys drifting in to the slot unnoticed.

Solid game all around, acknowledging the Wild were flat.

Maybe good that they skipped their Friday PM practice at Father David Bauer

MacDonald played one good game and he's already a CP-favorite! Dear god, take it down a notch.

Win!

well, he seems like a solid backup, and that's what Calgary has been lacking for a long time. I am much more confident in Joey Mac than I have been in Irving, and I'm pretty sure that most people will feel that way. I believe that, when Kipper comes back, he'll be a reliable #2 who can give the starter a break from time to time and give you a chance to win. I doubt that he'll have a Flames future beyond this season, but it's nice to have a proven backup for once.

I have been impressed with Bouwmeester and Stajan this season. It's amazing what a change behind the bench can do for some people, they are completely different players. That pass by Bouwmeester leading to Tanguay's goal was fantastic.

I really enjoy his play calling, he just has a good voice for it and good pace.

Roughly 100x better than Kerr.

Very good - he and Hrudey were an excellent tandem.

Yup. Not going to win the Vezina any time soon, but is pretty calm back there and has veteran poise. Nice to see after the Irving scrambles.

Really? One scratched game and people are writing off Cervenka?

I think it was a good idea to give Cervenka the night off. Give him some time and space to calm down a bit. It's clear that he's got an amazing amount of skill, but is still struggling to adjust to North American Hockey and getting over the blood clot issue. Cervenka brings far more to the team than Comeau has. I'm hoping we see a second line of Cervenka, Sven and Hudler tonight.

That was a pretty awful game that the Flames managed to be less awful in. Good to see Stajan get rewarded for being the teams hardest working player, and MacDonald didn't let in a softy for the first time. Seeing Comeau between two gifted players like Hudler & Baertschi was ridiculous, and frankly unfair to Comeau.
