I remember the Ballard tripping call as the worst. The Canucks didn't score on that PP, but Hudler swipes at the puck and Ballard acts like he was hit in the knees with a chainsaw. Maybe they should have less of a crackdown on obstruction calls and more on diving.

I was about ten rows up from the guy who tossed his jersey on the ice, he was soaking in the cheers from the Canucks fans both when he threw it on the ice and when security escorted him out. What a tool.
The first period was half decent, I thought if they kept that effort up they may give themselves a solid chance to win. They didn't, a few penalty calls later (some of which were questionable looking live) and it was curtains. I wish they had a physical push back in the third, but aside from one big Iginla hit there wasn't much of one. Irving made some big saves early, but he also looked a little bit shaky. Having said that, with all of the turnovers and the way the Sedins were owning the puck in the Flames zone I can see why he was on edge. They were just outclassed and out worked from the second period onward.
Is it just me or is the atmosphere significantly more quiet than it used to be at Rogers Arena? There were a decent amount of Flames fans this time as well, I was quite surprised.

It is a lot quieter these days at Rogers Arena. But I think it's a matter of the regular season games just not meaning all that much to the standings. Canucks are going to win their games, sometimes ugly, sometimes nice, but this city is all about what this team does in the playoffs and it's pretty much inevitable that this team will make the dance. It's loud in there during the playoffs.
The years when the Canucks struggled to get in, and the games meant a lot, GM Place had a good atmosphere. Far from the best in the league or anything, but a lot louder than it is now.

How opposing coaches and players don't understand that the twins are crap when you pound them in beyond belief, let them play river hockey.. they are awesome but the last few playoffs has shown, nail them at every chance and they crumble like creampuffs. Very irritating to watch.

And that is why they are pathetic. They take these days for granted. But, like all things, they will not last.
Window's closing.. a couple seasons yet of course, but it is..

(Not that Montreal has the ability to scare anybody either.)

This was really noticeable tonight. There's no one to stir it up and at least give the Canucks something to think about for next time.
It's really unsettling to me how many times in the last 3 or 4 years this team seems like scared children against what is supposedly their biggest rival. They need to have more self belief that they can actually play against the Canucks. There's just no swagger at all.

I figured apathy about the regular season played a role, I suppose that's understandable after a few years of regular season success. When I was a kid my dad had season tickets up until the lockout after the 2003-2004 season (although no one in our family cheers for the Canucks, so why he bought them I don't know), and I just remember it being much louder at GM Place. I wasn't sure if that was just because I was young or what. Thanks for the reply.

They are two of the best in the league for sure, but you're right. I think it's a mixture of sound positional play and physicality that neutralizes the Sedins. The Blackhawks and Bruins have done this and shown ways to shut them down, surely the Flames have seen plenty of tape. The Flames aren't built for that grind it out/crash and bang style, honestly which defenceman on the Flames is built for that? Sarich? He is far too slow to keep up with the Sedins. Giordano might be, but he certainly isn't the way he has played since he signed the contract extension. For the past few seasons when these two teams play I always expect the Sedins to cycle down low and own the puck in the Flames zone, if they don't I'd probably consider that a fairly successful game.

Yeah, it would be nice if Bouwmeester just demolished one of them unexpectedly and it turns the tide of the game. That would make my year

Actually, it helps to have a Norris trophy winner to shut them down. "Pounding" them has never really mattered.
Teams with crappy defencemen aren't going to stop them no matter what.

I'd say it's a pretty clearly a wait for the playoffs mentality. The President's Trophy parades are getting boring.

Shoulda', coulda', woulda':
- Started Stajan between Hudler and Chunkvenka. They looked average without him. Why the best line was split up is beyond me. Street between Jackman and Begin while riding the pine would have been acceptable.
- Waived Comeau after Game 1. He has no place on an NHL roster, unless you're intention is to tank the season. The Islanders waived him. Enough said. Jay, please, discard. And ban the use of #17 for at least ten years.
- Coach Hartley: please use your timeout. Immediately after the penalty, that was called after Vancouver's first goal, would have been my choice. Standing there with your mouth agape and wondering what just happened was seen by a national audience.
- Taylor in after the 2nd intermission. Game was over after Van's second goal. Everybody knew that.
- Flames, high dollar, players won't or can't compete with the elite teams in the NHL.
- Positives when it comes to the Vancouver games...None. It was a divisional game. Unacceptable compete level. No fight, no points. Deserved the loss.
Before tomorrow: Comeau, you're FIRED! Street back to the Heat. Horak or Byron up.(The finer points of one and two-way contracts and the waiver wire, do not need to be explained to me). Taylor in. Stajan remains between the Czech's.

Nice overreaction.
- I'm not fond of Comeau but he helped create the only goal of the night and had another huge chance to put us up 2-0.
- Irving made some great stops and the game is only down 3-1
- Timeout after it was 1-1? Why waste it when there could be potentially game changing situations yet to occur. Critical PPs, PKs, Icings, Last minute situations.
- Only valid point is Stajan with the Czechs. Never fond of breaking up lines that are clicking, but its not like it didn't make some sense.

I can't stand seeing the Canucks laughing and smiling on the bench. You can tell they have zero respect for the Flames.

Personally with how good he's been in the faceoff's and how he has been passing I would slide Tangs over to the left side and throw Stajan on the top line.
