Flexibility at the deadline so taht if they move big contracts they do not dip below the floor ??? Doesnt that show that they have decided to pack it in for the year allready ?
Could it have something to do with the Visnovsky situation? Maybe they could trade him to a team he would report to (note that I am not well versed in what is happening there). I'm pretty sure without his contract they would be below the floor.

The draft pick the Bruins acquired is conditional on Thomas reporting to the Islanders or to any other team in the event the Islanders should trade his rights elsewhere.

The move puts the Islanders above the cap floor and the team can choose to toll the contract so they can keep using the cap hit in perpetuity if Thomas doesn't come back, or just let his contract expire at the end of the season.

The first paragraph the NY press disputes, saying he has to play one game.

The second paragraph Bill Daly disputes, saying the cap hit will not be allowed to roll over into next season. Also, if the writer had checked, he'd have found the isles cap was just below $50m when the trade was made because Visnovky joined the isles early this week. They were already above the floor.

Quite simply my favorite hockey team is a joke

GM has no interest in icing a competitive team...just have phantom cap hits to reach the floor... you don't know how disgusted I am.

Pretty sure that's on your owner. Unless you are indeed well aware that the real GM of this team's initials are CW.

I would think that Garth Snow has some of, if not the, least control and autonomy over his team than any other GM.

Throw in the fact that he isn't getting hired by any other team if canned by Wang and he certainly has to make sure he is very careful in the decisions he makes to not get fired and ride the gravy train job he somehow lucked into.

This is making a pretty big asumption that the owner wants what every other owner wants....to ice a winning team.

Mr. Wang's modus operandi is to reach the cap floor with spending as little actual money as possible.

His cost cutting does not start there. Garth Snow went straight from goalie pads to the General Manager's office. The Islanders also have the smallest front office in the NHL.
