Feaster says next week's presser about Iginla's future won't stop questions in Detroit. Who? Us? @CraigCustance @ByKevinAllen
I haven't heard anything about a media conference....unless someone is being facetious. The snow has turned my brain into mush today.
Update: Nevermind...just saw the Sun article

I think he signs an extension with Calgary. Jarome asking to be traded to a contender for a cup run is always a possibility, but if he does it, I think it will be at the end of his career, and that's still years away.

This is not about money for Iginla or the Flames for the reasons i've already stated above. As for Jarome thinking about a hometown discount - what a laugher that is - why would he even consider that? Not a chance.
If he truly wants to win a Cup, best to go to a team with a strong chance at winning over the next few years - and go sooner rather than later to maximize your opportunities.

Jarome Iginla plays out his final year in Calgary, and signs with Edm for 2013-2014.

That won't happen in a million years. Nothing like becoming the face of a city and hockey team for years, beloved by all, a hero to children, and throw it all away to go play for the hated rivals? Yeah...ok.

If you were a real flames fan you would show some respect to the guy who has single handedly carried this franchise on his back for more then the past decade.

I don't know how long you've been a fan, but i would have said the same thing about Grant Fuhr playing for the Flames. It happens - because fans care more about rivalries than players do.

Not sure how crazy door #3 is. Iginla was born and raised there, can play for the team without moving his family, has fully earned the respect of this city (nobody will hold it against him), and gets a chance to play with 3 #1 draft picks. Yup, sounds like cr##p to me.

If Iginla goes anywhere, it's to a contender. Not to the worst team in the league.

Grant Fuhr was the face of the franchise and undisputed leader of the Oilers for over a decade? Besides, he played for 4 different teams between leaving the Oilers and joining the Flames. So, to summarize, your analogy sucks.
I see three likely possibilities for Iginla:
1) Stay with the Flames for the duration of his career
2) Get traded at the deadline to a contender
3) Sign with a contender as a FA in the offseason
Somehow, you neglected to mention #1. Regarding the other options, the key word is "contender" meaning the Oilers aren't included in that discussion.

Do you really think a guy that cares about his reputation in Calgary would do that?
Think.

Iginla detractors are like Oiler fans. Every year they say "this is the year it happens," but it never seems to happen.

Yeah Kipper has been crap since 2004 all Iggy. Kipper is the only reason we have been anywhere near the playoffs in the last 8 years.

Lets not get into who's more valuable, iggy or kipper. Bottom line is, we've not seen playoff hockey in three years, and it's been nearly a decade since we've seen the second round. And the blame for that will ultimately fall at both their feet when we look back at this era of flames hockey.

Nope - haven't neglected #1. The whole point of my dialogue is to ask why someone who supposedly wants to remain a Flame forever - would still not be signed to an extension as we head into the last year of his contract. Knowing what a gongshow of media and distraction this will create for the team. A mediocre, playoff bubble team that surely cannot afford such distractions. The Flames have no interest in letting this happen, so i see the only rational explanation being Iginla is refusing to sign a new deal.
Your other 2 options are the same ones i mentioned earlier. Someone else asked me to speculate on whats behind door #3, so i did. It was NOT in my initial thoughts. And i did it precisely to cause a ruckus.
That being said, i think many folks here seriously overstate the so-called edm-calgary rivalry. It is hardly the hate relationship it once was. I think if Iginla actually did sign with Edm - many of you would be surprised (or disgusted) at how many calgarians cheered for the oilers if they were to make a run with #12 in the lineup.

^ Asked and answered. The Flames and Iginla weren't allowed to negotiate during the lockout. Prior to that, neither of them were interested in negotatiating two years before his contract was set to expire. Too much time and too many variables.
I asked about door #3 specifically because you did discount Iginla staying with the Flames, which is an option. I honestly don't know if it's the most likely or not, but it's certainly an option that you completely ignored in your post.
I don't know what Iginla's feelings are towards the BoA and frankly neither do you. But I do know that Iginla is smart enough to realize that if he, the face of the Flames franchise for the last decade, went to Shelbyville, there would be a large uproar from the Flames faithful. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Iginla left the Western Conference out of respect for the franchise (assuming he walked as a UFA).
This isn't about homeristic fan-boys and their fantasy line-ups. This is about a man that has deep roots with the team and community. His children were born and raised in Calgary. His future is likely in Calgary. He may even find work with the Flames when he retires. Do you honestly believe he'd sacrifice any of that to go finish 12th in the Western Conference in Edmonton?

...I'm sorry, but to call the Oilers
A) a contender
or
B) a possible destination for Jarome Iginla
is to be silly. You are silly.
