Considering I said it is a maps app, saying that it has maps should go without saying. The maps in Apple's app work just fine, BTW.

And seriously guys, I wasn't comparing the apps, just pointing out that the Google Maps app has a pretty big flaw, and a flaw that will affect many people's ability to use the app.

When you use a maps app, what is the percentage of time you pull an address from your contacts? once a week? once every 12 times? 10% of the time?

More frequently from my calendar, if I have an appointment somewhere. However from contacts, because I dont have my kids' friends houses memorized, or how to get to them from different starting points, I usually use it for that primarily.

Why would I want to enter an address into the maps app when I already have it entered in the contacts? If I don't have it entered into contacts, why would I enter it into the maps app, when I could enter it instead into the contacts, then have the address ready to go the next time I want to go there? And I also have the ability to share that entered contact with someone else.
The answer to your question is 95%+.

Interesting, didn't even notice the address book wasn't linked. That would be a pretty big plus to add in the next update. I assume it's not too hard and that other third party apps have that ability. Would be useful especially when linking to appointments and stuff from the calendar I guess. For the calendar posts that I made, I just changed like link to "comgooglemaps://?q=address" so that's a quick work around for calendar integration for now.
For me I mainly use map apps to search for either places around me or specific business/restaurants so it's not a big problem for me. I know how to get to people in my contact list so that's not a problem.

Yeah maps from calendar is more important than contacts for me, I know how to get to all the people in my contact list, if I didn't they probably wouldn't be in my contact list yet.

Those of us who use our phones for business find the ability to connect Maps to Contacts a pretty significant feature.

So 95% of the time you need an address it is already entered into your contacts list? seriously? I can't imagine your contact list. that is a mind bottling number.

The percentage of times I get an address from my calendar is significantly higher than the percentage of times Apple maps has failed to Explain Accurate Directions.
That being said, Google Maps did get a spot on page 1 on my iPhone.

That's not true. Apple had been pressuring Google for years to include the same features in their Apple Maps as they had in their Android Maps. This included turn-by-turn voice directions. Google refused to do it, and so Apple finally pushed forward with their own Maps. They felt their users were missing out on some pretty basic features because of their arrangement with Google, and the control that Google had over that aspect.
I'm saying Google was right or wrong in their decision. If I was in their place, I most likely would said no to Apple too. Although, in hindsight, I'm not so sure I would have been right. As I mentioned earlier, they lost a pretty significant footprint in the mobile space by being relegated to 3rd-party developer status.
I think this all ties back to previous arguments on this site about whether or not a company like Apple should be allowed to control the user experience on their products. The way Google prevented Apple from having the same basic features in their Maps app that other phones (even Blackberry) had, just goes to further prove the point that companies should be 100% allowed to control the UX on their products.

On android it's on every one of my pages because i placed it as my main icon.
How can you iphone users stand all those icons every where? whenver i use my wife's iphone it's just so messy. That said would apple ever let you customize your screens?

I should probably mention that, along with Ken, I've dumped the Apple Maps app in the Apple folder with all their other bundled apps I don't use. Google Maps is now on my front page as my main maps app too.

No, 95% of the time, the address is already in contacts, OR, it saves me time and effort in the long run to enter the address as a contact into the contacts app first.

Perhaps it is just a function of me living here my entire life, but I am amazed that people need turn by turn directions with such frequency.
Maybe I just don't get out enough.

Sounds like your wife is one of those people who install the app for every webpage they visit. I have 2.5 pages of icons (could almost be 2 if I compressed it down. That also includes only 5 folders.
FanIn80- did you find a way to move Newsstand ito a folder? I saw a trick that worked in iOS 5- but they have since "fixed" that.
