Where's fundmark?
Rays beat writer just tweeted that he's hearing that the Rays just traded James Shields and Wade Davis to the Royals.

Oh god the Rays just restocked their farm system like you wouldn't believe, because I bet the Royals really overpaid for those two pitchers. Rays just got the best hitting prospect in the minors. Scary news for the AL East with their amazing amount of pitchers.
MLB news everyday!

The Royals are doing very much what the Rays did during their opening decade of shame. They're assembling a team to be .500. Mortgaging their future for the chance to have a winning record. For people who aren't familiar with Will Meyers, he's the best hitting prospect in baseball, just one minor league player of the year and hits for power. He's going to be an All Star for so many years.
The Royals are just the worst. Mortgage the future and overpay for D level pitchers.

in terms of minor league players, the only guy who has more value than Myers is Profar (and only because of position)
Myers was the BA minor league player of the year, number 1 on Law's list
and they just traded him for what seems to be a 31 year old 2-3 starter and a long relief guy
that being said the full details haven't been announced, but on the surface this is worse than what the Marlins did, and at least they were dumping salary

Rob Neyer likes it.

My quick take: This is the worst trade in MLB history unless Wade Davis becomes a good starter, in which case it's only the second worst.

To defend the Royals just a little bit.. that division is HORRIBLE. I thought they could win the division before this trade... now they really can! To hell with the future!

This trade would have been at least understandable had the Royals got David Price

it's not defensible at all, for the past few seasons they have had an absolutely stacked farm system
and in the next few years it was going to come good and they were going to dominate the central
Moustakas/Butler/Hosmar/Myers/Gordon/Starling was going to be as good a middle of the lineup as anyone
it's nuts to give up on the highest ceiling in that group for a guy with an era of 4.54 outside of pitching friendly tropicana field

#YOLO
The sad thing is, the Royals actually might be worst off for the next 2 years as well! Poor Royal fans, it's actually quite depressing.
I do enjoy a big move in Baseball once a day. If GM's could get together and give us 1 big transaction a day, I'd be happy. It was a fun weekend.

Sorry guys I have been jumping up and down in excitement for past hour. Sad to see big game James leave but his salary was to high for our poor owners. Does anyone know what kind of arm this kid has? I'm trying to figure where we put him in outfield. Also is he ready to make the jump in June or is he a late season of 2014 player
I will also miss seeing wade Davis in public. The dude is a monster. I won't forget going to Starbucks in Seattle and jp Howell and Davis were right infront of us and to see that large of human being was nuts

It's shortening the race. Instead of a race to become a team that could win a world series, it's now a race to be a .500 team.
No way they're better then the Tigers next season, still not better then the White Sox, but who knows. They do get to enjoy a softer schedule but the Rays, Jays, Red Sox, Yankees, A's, Angels, Rangers and maybe the Orioles are all still better then them.
This is one of the worst moves in baseball history.

The trade broke less then an hour ago so quiet you haha.
He's not going to start the season playing for Tampa but he'll be there either mid-season or start of 2014.

People... The Royals are still starting Jeff Francoeur in RF. don't get too excited about the Royals.

Any mention of a trade with the Royals and one should just start jumping for joy if it's with their team.
Rays cycle now complete and then 4 or 5 years from now we can do it all again and they'll just keep having all the young talent in the world.
