I hate to rag on you, but the blogger sounded like an idiot. I can't believe I read that full rant. Surely there's a better advocate for Manny Acta than the dummy who wrote that.

He doesn't base his decisions off small sample sizes.
He's smart enough not to bad somebody 1st in the lineup just because they're fast.
He doesn't bunt
He loves statistics.
He's not a dinosaur in terms of his grasp of technology.
To sum it all up. I thought it was a hilarious rant from an angry fan. His points all were really strong. But I totally see how some could find it annoying to get through.

Does Acta make the mistake of being a slave to the save? Don't know how many times I've seen a manager bring in his "closer" one night with a three run lead to get the 6-7-8 hitters out. Than the next day with a one run lead in a day game he brings in the closer, let's him give away the win, and loses the game.

Matt Williams is now on the Jays radar for manager as is Tim Wallach. I read somewhere that Manny Acta might not even be in the running. I get the feeling, they are going to go with a "younger", inexperienced guy as manager. Inexperienced at the MLB level.
Just my opinion - but I would have thought the Jays were in a good position to offer him a spot in their rotation this year, but this year only... I would assume Villanueva would be looking for more security than just a year though, hence him going and looking elsewhere. Nothing saying that the Jays don't pluck him back after he tests the waters either, still a viable option if the Jays strike out during free agency.

Yep, that's exactly what it sounds like. He wanted to be in the rotation and a multi-year deal and the Jays just weren't comfortable giving him either.
If AA can somehow acquire a solid starter or two it makes sense.
On another note, looks like Butterfield will be leaving the Jays to join Farrell in Boston.
I wouldn't read into anyone in re: to the manager yet. As much as I don't see it being Acta, AA is likely just being very diligent as always trying to find someone.
I'm fine not bringing back Villanueva. His arm died 3/4 of the way through the season and he went on a truly awful stretch. He's just not someone you can trust to put a lot of innings in as a starter next season.

I'm okay with the Jays not bringing back Villanueva, yet... I like the approach in that you allow him to see what his options are via free agency, you see what your options are - and if you have to, meet back after your travels. It's a good approach by both sides. I don't see Villanueva back, because I do think someone will pay for his services as a starter.
And I agree that he isn't a guy that you can give a lot of innings to next year, but I don't mind Villanueva as a short-term replacement if it happens you lose an arm out of the rotation early in the season.

^ agreed dusty...he is a good replacemnt pitcher who can get you the innings you need until others are back. Heck Id pitch him 4th or 5th in the rotation as well...we have seen a LOT worse.
In a perfect world you could have him stay in the pen and fill in as a starter, but there's no way he's going to say yes to that right now. He's just such a wildcard and has never pitched a full season, his splits got so bad at the end of the season but he really was strong earlier in the year. Small sample size and all. He could be a strong back of the end rotation starter for someone.
