So, not so crazy now, huh? I wonder if we'd still be at 89% in favour of keeping the handshake around with COVID-19 knocking on our doors.
Had my first elbow bump with a supplier that came in yesterday. Can't say I was sorry to not have to shake hands.
I have psoriasis on my hands, especially near my right thumb. My skin is always cracking and breaking and bleeding. It gets so bad I have to take time off hockey sometimes, actually thought I’d have to quit. It’s so hard to politely decline handshakes....
My whole life I’ve been a “firm handshake = good person” believer. Now I just want it to go away.

Is there medical evidence that handshakes as opposed to other close contact like elbow bumps are more contagious?
I think the maintain a 1m social distance may be the better criteria. But I’d still think that in non-pandemic seasons the hand shake is fine and low risk.
I still prefer the Russian-style vodka shot system.

I voted no to the shakes. I broke a small bone in my hand and dreaded the “manly squeeze” for a year afterwards. Finally just kept my hands down and nodded, if it was necessary I explained why with a long boring story that encouraged them to move on to the real issues.
Elbow bumps suck. They actually put you closer to the other person.
I think footsies is the way to go.
I like this suggestion because you could also give them a good kick in the sack if they have pi$$ed you off. Would love to do this to some of our clients.

Keep letting the media dictate your irrational fears. Bahhh!!!
Every year there are flu viruses that basically kill the same number of people but the flu has been around for years so it isn't trendy. Remember when bird flu was going to kill us all? SARS would surely wipe us all out? It is amazing how the media can create irrational panic.

Right? And y2k was a hoax!
Surly it's not the mitigating actions that were taken that reduced the severity of those crisis's...

Or, you know, we could NOT just accept that the flu is cool...
I've thought contact with strangers should be retired ever since the bedbugs incident at campus when I was in university. That event altered my very DNA I think.

Interesting. I can't think of a polarizing issue that I could really care less about than this. At first, it was the argument over daylight savings time I thought was silly, but this is the new bar for a topic I don't think I couldn't care about even if I wanted too.
So I guess put me down for option #3, 'who gives a crap'

It's actually stupid people that will probably kill us all.
