Rolling Sockpuppets, previously banned posters

I think some returning posters can be contributive and Cecil is a good example of that.

I like the leniency the mods show to banned posters and appreciate the fact they're willing to allow returns; however, I think it is incumbent upon the returnee to cease any behavior that caused the original banning in the first place. More than anything, it's rude to the mods who give their time to the board to cause them extra work by having to police you.

Returning just to troll is really lame.

So are we not allowed to call cops pigs or did that guy get banned for being a troll?

I can't remember the last time I ever called a cop a pig but IMO that is a slippery slope. We can make threads insulting women drivers, we can call lawyers scum, we can call groups rednecks or hicks or make fun of the way certain ethnic groups drive but we can't call cops pigs?

If in fact we can't call cops pigs, are there any other professions that we are outlawed from insulting on CP?

I think he was banned for being an antagonist in general. In the FOI forum he always went out of his way to bash the Flames and had a temper tantrum any time someone said something unfavourable of the Jets.

I did this near the beginning of my cp career...on the Jeremy Lin "chink in the armor" topic us Asians were busy being mildly annoyed when one guy came on and told us to lighten up, cause we were acting like those Jews who won't let that whole Holocaust thing go.

I couldn't tell if that was a terrible attempt at humor, but I didn't like it so I tattled. Shortly after, I couldn't even find any evidence that the guy even existed. Is it possible to do something bad enough that you get stricken from the record like Sethi casting out Moses?

Except for the fact that reporting posts is the most efficient way to deal with trolls.

If no one ever responded to offensive comments, trolls etc and just reported them and let the mods deal with it the forum would be better off.

Having some bizarre attitude like we're all 5 year olds on the playground who shouldn't tattle just causes threads to get derailed and cause flame wars between posters.

Oh and of course the fact that mods are constantly asking people to just report posts that need to be removed or whatever instead of having 20 people respond to it and start a flame war.

But I'm sure your way is good too.

I wondered about that, too. Hopefully he was banned for trolling in general, because I'd hate to see the number of people that deserve to be banned based on the Asian stereotype jokes, the names lawyers get called here (or Rogers employees, for that matter), or the names thrown around concerning entire religious sects in religious threads, etc.

I would think someone who is a returning poster would have the good sense to keep their nose clean and not try to draw attention to themselves with stuff like calling cops pigs.

Basically, if a poster shows their habits have changed we will "look the other way" when it comes to them being a returning user.

But if they are a problem at all - why the heck should we be so nice and keep them around?

You're another good example. You were kind of bat**** crazy as DESS, but now you're a very laid back, good contributing poster. The problem, imo, is most returning posters aren't. They generally leave on bad terms, and come back with an axe to grind.

Sliver certainly still has an axe to grind and is crazy but I guess next to DESS even Sliver looks somewhat normal.

Because eventually the posters return to their previous posting habits.

They also usually were fairly distinctive posters that either posted a certain way or had specific issues that they fixated on. They didn't get banned for being wall flowers and those same issues and posting styles that got them banned in the first place end up being hard to hide.
