Chinook Apple store replaced my 15" 2011 MBP on the spot about a month after I bought it for some crashing issues. I think it just depends who you get sometimes.

When I had my MBP replaced, I was rocking a 2006 MBP 15" under Applecare. They replaced it with the new model for me at the time (2008) which was a pretty significant upgrade. Not only that, they reimbursed me for the remaining time left on the AppleCare agreement- and the new machine started with a fresh 1 year warranty.

The new podcast app is out and I'm not impressed. There's no playlist support which, off the bat, is a deal breaker for me. And it's prettty sluggish on my 4s. This should've been a beta release for those testing iOS 6.

Yup.
One thing none of the reviews (not even from most larger scale Mac publications) are mentioning is it can't stream or download podcasts larger than 50 meg when you're on 3G/LTE.
Disappointed in Apple, and disappointed in shoddy journalism.

Wow, that sucks. I just checked my podcasts, and around half are over 50 MB. I sync them to my iPod for listening at work, so it's not a huge issue for me, but that's just silly.
It also looks like Apple is trying to monetize podcasts with this app. That makes sense since they don't make money off them. While I'd like to see podcast creators make money, I prefer the current model. I don't find podcast ads annoying (except the stupid Pepsi spot Earwolf is playing) and I listen to enough of them that it could cost me quite a bit. I already pay for Never Not Funny, and if other shows were to have similar pricing I might have to scale down what I listen to.

You can stream by finding it in the catalogue (which at that point just in itunes) and tapping the podcast episode's name.
I guess this will app will be good for podcast exposure.

People listen to podcasts?
How do you have time after watching vlogs?

You're joking right?
Podcasts have never been as popular.
Podcasts dominate my daily commute to work compared to music.

I don't quite understand. How?
This to me feels like a re-skinned version of what they already had going on. Podcasts from iTunes have always sucked in my opinion for several reasons. The inability to download large files has been present for years now, and it always takes a while for iTunes to find the podcast (usually about a day). An app like PocketCasts is far superior in my eyes and is actually beautifully designed. I love that I can specify the values for the skip forward/back buttons, and that the right and left side of the screen double as hidden buttons for those functions.
Apple's offering great for people just wanting to get into podcasts because it isn't lost within the maze of iTunes on the phone I suppose. Podcasts are easily some of the greatest content that many seem to overlook.

There's a redeem button in the app, although only if you're running it on iOS 6. It makes sense that they would only add something like that if they're going to start letting producers charge for podcasts.

My (incredibly uneducated) guess is that the redeem button only exists because they've reskinned the iTunes section containing podcasts. The redeem button is all over iTunes for obvious reasons. If apple controlled or even housed the podcasts it might make sense, but all apple is doing is pointing to a podcast hosted elsewhere. I think podcast creators know the appeal is their content is free. I can't imagine more than a handful being able to successfully pulling off a paid version.

You're probably right, and I hope you are considering how many podcasts I listen to. But it's odd that they released the app for iOS 5 and 6, and the only difference I'm aware of is this redeem button.

One thing to keep in mind is that Apple doesn't host Podcasts. I am sure that Podcast hosts wouldn't like Apple taking a cut while they do all the hosting work.
Maybe Apple plans on providing hosting? Maybe a premium podcast network? That's a lot of data to have to store considering the vast amount of terrible podcasts.

Flip it around - tie iAd into it, and start paying podcasters a cut on targeted advertising, plus free amarketing of the podcast itself and unlimited bandwidth out of Apple's datacenters.
Doesn't sound so bad for the amateur but successful podcaster now, does it?
I doubt this is the direction they are going though - it seems more likely to me that Apple would monetize podcasting the traditional way, with in-app subscriptions and their 30% cut.
And Russic's explanation makes a lot of sense too. Like a lot of things Apple's been doing lately, this podcast app seems a bit half-baked - I think the whole space is clearly in a bit of flux for Apple right now - what we have today isn't where they will end up moving forward.

I just can't see Apple's iAd clients being happy when their ads show up in an episode of Comedy Bang Bang where Tony Clifton calls the Wayons brothers the N-word brothers.
Podcasting is great because it's the wild west and knowing Apple, they would want to curate it and I don't think that squeaky clean content should be promoted above everything else.
The redeem button does just seem like an error.
