Which is sad because HTC phones are excellent IMO. I had the Galaxy S and now with the Raider, this phone rocks.

My company always gives me early renewals. So a phone only has to last 2 years. I always try and go near the top of the line and get a phone with capabilities I know will last me into the future.

So to bring this conversation full circle and back on topic. That top of the line phone is undeniably the S3. Some minor features, which are great. Love the screen capture shortcut by wiping your finger across the screen. Love the shortcut to the camera and texts from the lock screen too. A very intuitive phone.

I'm thinking of switching from Iphone3GS to Samsung S3. Contract is able to be renewed in the next week. I really like Itunes/Ipod interface. Does anyone have experience switching over and can compare how it works? I don't really "buy" most of my music I have other "sources" but like how the music is sorted out and the album covers are able to be viewed.

I have an iPhone and an Android tablet. The one major drawback to Android, in my experience, is transferring music, and specifically iTunes playlists.

It can be done with the app Doubletwist, which has an interface similar to iTunes and uses all of your iTunes information. There is an add-on to this app that lets you sync over wifi as well. It works well, but is a bit of a nuisance to open the app on your phone and computer before syncing, especially because I don't use doubletwist for anything but syncing music.

If you don't organize your music in playlists, it's extremely easy to add files to your phone over wifi with tons of other apps, or just with a usb cable.

I picked up an S3 yesterday. First time I've bought non-Apple in a while. First impressions:

- Screen size is nice, although a little annoying to pull down notification centre
- LTE is nice, but fairly inconsistent.
- Android is (for the average user) not as good as iOS. I bought it because I enjoy new gadgets, and the S3 is a strong effort. But I wouldn't put myself in the 'average user' category. I'll be using the 4S and S3 together (switching SIMs is really easy, I love it), and probably still upgrade to the new iPhone in the fall.

As an iPhone user since 2008, it's nice to use a phone with a different OS for a bit.

Cool phone. Just a bit confusing as far as the OS.

When does Jelly Bean come out for it?

this is completely subjective. my brother and sister-in-law are both not tech people, yet they both love their S2's and bought them after playing around with an iphone for a bit. even my dad, a logging truck driver who only figured out how to use a computer for kijiji in the last couple of years, bought a Samsung phone (coming from an old Motorola flip phone with no screen) and hasn't had a problem using it

i know far more non-tech inclined people who own Android phones than geeks like me, and many of them are prior iphone users. i think 4.0 ICS really challenged the notion that iOS was the easier user experience, Jelly Bean will put it to rest

One day?

You've been in the Apple world far too long. Leave that sim card in your new phone for atleast a week straight then give some thoughts.

After using this beast for over a month now, whenever I pick up any other phone it feels like a tiny little baby toy.

Definitely have got use to the size.

What phone did you have before the Galaxy?

But the outer shell and even weight makes it seem like a toy to me. I picked one up at a local store over the weekend just to feel what it was like and I hated it compared to my HTC Raider, which feels much more sturdy and is heavier. The S3 and the HTC One X both seem like plastic play toys to me.

I've been really tempted to get the SIII but I'm just waiting to see what Apple can come up with before making a decision.

Off-topic: Does anyone know if Google has plans to release a new Nexus (the phone, not the tablet) in the next six or seven months? I may wait even further if that is the case.

just get a decent case for it and it's fine. the S2 is all plastic on the back as well, but i put on one of those barely there cases (http://www.case-mate.com/Samsung-Gal...here-Cases.asp) and it feels great in the hands. adds almost nothing to the weight or thickness, protects better than i thought (looking at the dings and cracks in the case that would have otherwise been on my phone) and is very easy to remove and replace

i care absolutely nothing about how the rear of a phone looks, it's just gonna be covered up anyways. for me it's all about the internals and the screensize

I'd say the iPhone is basically a known quantity right now. It'll be thinner, taller and faster than the 4S, and have LTE/NFC capability. The OS will be tweaked slightly with iOS6, but likely nothing major.

From what I've read, which is probably complete speculation, the next Nexus phone should be released somewhat soon after the iPhone. People are saying it will be around the same time as the Galaxy Nexus last year, which would mean November.

If I could get the S3 now, I probably would. For the time being though, I think I will have to wait and see.

Isn't the new Google phone usually released alongside a new update to the OS?

I'm actually in the opposite boat, had Samsung Galaxy for 1.5yrs, and after having it stolen 3 months ago and not being allowed to upgrade until Jesusmas, I've using my sister's old iPhone 4 until then. Some things are better than Android, but over-all I really miss my Galaxy. Swype's completely spoiled me, texting is pure hell without it.

I really miss the customizability of Android, iPhone just feels so stiff to me. Over-all its to the point where I'm actually considering just paying the penalty so I can get the SIII, don't think I can do another 4.5 months away from Android.

I'm in the complete opposite boat. Have used my coworker's Raider here and there and it's just too much weight. Just a little too hefty for me to be interested.

Sounds like you need a reasonably priced Android phone to get you through to Jesusmas http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=119576

I could see how some wouldn't like the weight, but I find it makes the phone feel sturdy and more like a phone. The new light plastic feeling phones seem like Fisher Price toys to me.

I just ordered a Samsung Galaxy S3, just waiting for it to arrive from Telus. I'm looking at a Otterbox Defender Case. Anyone recommend a place to pick it up from in the city where they wont gouge you on the price? I know its about $60 at Bestbuy but can purchase from Amazon for $30.
