I completely missed this thread because I was worried it was about someone's dog getting killed, but finally curiosity kicked in (and didn't kill anyone). Good work CP!!
Marek Zidlicky- Kills kittens
Calgarypuck- Saves puppies
He's doing well. His cast is off but he still needs to spend most of his days in the crate to ensure the leg and pelvis heals properly. We are able to finally have him which is really nice. Even a month later I'm still amazed at this place stepping in to help us out. Thank you again, so much.
Now some pictures....
You can see the scar on his back left leg in this picture. The staples are out and it sounds like the pins will stay in his leg permanently.

The vet says his leg is healing great. Only a couple more weeks until we can start taking him on leashed walks again. He is NOT enjoying being pent up.
The problem is now that he has developed some sort of skin problem since he has been at the vet. He is constantly licking and scratching and his fur is starting to really thin out in certain problem areas. He also has some sores and scabs. She had him on anti-biotics and antihistamines for a couple weeks to see if that would clear up the problem. He stopped scratching until the antihistamines ran out but now he's back to it. So now she wants to do a skin biopsy to find out if it's an infection or maybe some kind of allergy (She also gave us a bag of hypoallergenic dog food).
Has anyone had any kind of experience with this? The poor dog finally starts to get healthy after being mangled by a car and now he's always in extreme discomfort because of his skin. He has had a rough life so far. We just want him to be a healthy, normal puppy.
Here is a little video we took of his skin problems...
And also just some random pictures...
(the coat is to cover up some of the hot spots for his itching)

Glad to hear Buddy is on the mend, glad you're keeping us updated... yeah he looks like one sulky dog, if only they understood English so he understood why he's not allowed to run yet.
My dog has environmental allergies that only hit him in spring where he starts licking at his paws and legs. We have to monitor him pretty closely and take care of the hot spots as they crop up. We've given him antihistamines before but I don't find they work all that well, or if they do work, they'll only work for the period that he's on them... plus they really knock him out and I don't like continually drugging my dog.
I've talked to a few different vets about it and apparently there are allergy tests they can administer, but I've also heard the accuracy of those tests isn't always that great.
Needless to say it sucks and unfortunately, we haven't found a solution to spring allergies yet, I'm just thankful it's not a year long issue.
Does anybody here feed their dog a raw food diet? A lot of people are telling me that changing to that cleared up their dogs skin issues almost instantly.

I haven't tried the raw food diet for my dog, but I changed my dogs main protein from chicken to venison/salmon and his skin/fur problems disappeared pretty quickly. May just be an issue of the source of the protein.

We were having issues with our dog and seizures, which we thought may have been triggered by allergies. We switched his diet to a "limited ingredient diet" and we have seen good results so far. The biggest thing for us was taking wheat and rice out of his diet. Similar to LGA, we also changed the main protein in the food from three sources to just one source.
The other thing I found while I was doing dog allergy research is that some dogs are very sensitive to things such as floor cleaners, chemicals, and laundry detergents. Since our dog absolutely loves blankets we have started to be more careful about how we wash them.
Good luck, I know how frustrating it is when your dog isn't feeling well and you can't figure out exactly how to help him!
I tried a raw food diet for my dog (She's been battling cancer for a number of years) and it did not go well at all. I feed her NOW dog food which is excellent IMO. I also give her Bio Algae for animals.

When you say it didn't go well, what do you mean?

She just didn't take well to the diet, I could tell it upset her stomach for starters. Not saying a raw food diet is bad, perhaps here breed (Italian Greyhound) are not suitable for such a diet, or she just plain likes dry food better.
The NOW brand food is just as good IMO, grain free and it smells really fresh. My dog loves it.

another vote for the NOW and GO dog food lines - my dog used to have all sorts of allergic type issues - switched to NOW which is grain free and everything cleared up really quickly....great food for the furry little critters
NOW is awesome food, it smells so fresh I want to eat it. I can't stress how much the biopreparation formula f3+ has helped my dog, I no longer have her on any medications. FYI she has had mammary tumours removed, an ovarian tumour removed, and has ongoing issues with mast cell tumours.
That food looks good. Where do you get it and how much? I looked at the petland website and it looks pretty expensive, but maybe that's what we will have to pay for quality food. Everyone kept telling us that the costco brand (Kirkland) was a fantastic brand of dog food and only costs $30 for a 40lb bag, but I wonder if that's part of his issues.
