Nadal/Federer was a good match, albeit predictable.
I find their matches pretty boring to be honest. Federer does amazing things with his forehand - whether it's returning, rallying, drop shots, or anything else. And Nadal completely does not allow him to do anything with it - I think at one point he served something like 98% of his serves (both first and second) to the backhand.
It gets quite monotonous to watch Federer basically try to break out of his backhand, and then because he's so out of rhythm on his forehand, that messes up too.
Ugh, staying up to 5:30 to watch it and then being at work is not fun =/
Joke may have been a harsh word and for that I apologize.
Women's tennis USED to be good, heck, it was really worth watching. But that was long time ago. Back when we had Henin, Williams sisters, Clijsters, Sharapova...
Now we have (had) #1's such as Safina, Jankovic, Ivanovic, Wozniacki...but were they REALLY the best? Yes, they had the most ranking points, what else....but IMO they weren't really the best. Henin when she played for example was the best. You knew she was the favourite to win every tournament she entered. It was very rare she lost prior to semi's/finals. That's what's lacking in women's tennis right now. Someone you can truly call the best. Maybe not just one, but 2, 3 players fighting for that spot. Sort of what we have on the men's side.
I hope it's just a phase, that we'll see some improvement in the near future.
Not sure I follow the argument that having a defined group of elite names makes a sport great. What's wrong with parity, and having a bunch of rotating #1s?
Personally, I think Women's tennis is lame because I love to watch Men's tennis. Women's Tennis is so much slower, less tactical, and filled with way more unforced errors, that by comparison, it is unwatchable.

Well, there is that technical side to it too. I agree with you, although there are some matches I could watch.
Well, I don't know, maybe I'm just the only one who feels like this, but it seems like in the WTA, it's "easy" to become #1. I mean it's not easy, but in comparison to ATP, it looks like a piece of cake. Wozniacki crashed out the other day, and suddenly 4, 5 of them could become the next #1. In men's tennis, you need to do a lot more (and more consistently) to become #1. I mean, look at what Djokovic had to do to overtake Nadal last year. Or what Nadal had to do to overtake Federer.
While the rest of the top 10 can upset the big 4 (or 3, does Murray count?), it's highly unlikely they can win a GS. In the WTA, you never know with any certainty who'll win. #1 can either win or crash out in the 2nd round.
I don't know if I'm making any sense but I do feel like women's tennis is on a real low.

Yup. The women are more scattered so there are upset. The route to the final can open up and an outsider can win.
To win a men's grand slam a player has to beat 3 out of big 4 in 5 days. Good Luck. Ferrer played his $#%$ off on Wednesday night and still lost to Djokovic in straight sets.
The only player who has done that is Del Potro in New York.

I hate to admit it, but to a certain extent this is kind of what I was thinking while watching Fedal XXVII. Some amazing shots by both players that would make a great highlight package, but mostly just 3+ hours of watching Rafa endlessly beat down Roger's backhand...works every time. The commentators are correct that the difference between these guys is that Rafa has no problem sticking to a game plan even if it's brutally monotonous. Roger on the other hand can get discouraged easily if a point or two goes against him, and will just revert to his old futile tactics.
I enjoyed the Djoker/Murray match a lot more because it was two evenly matched players trying to impose their games on each other. Result was really a coin toss either way. The final will still be exciting, but if it continues to be as lopsided as the Fedal rivalry, then it might start to get just as stale.
Actually, he showed against Nole that he could. His game has certainly improved, especially his forehand. Mentally, he seems like a completely different player.
This match was a coin toss. Djokovic won solely on his experience and courage to play risky shots (that forehand on breakpoint at 5-5 in the 5th).
I like the womens game but the grunting or whatever that is has to stop, it's turning into a sideshow and makes the matches hard to watch, for me at least.
Should be a good final and a great month beyond. These early US tournaments coming up were awesome for Milos last year. I also think Pospisil is one good tournament from breaking through. If he can get to the semis of a 250 or quarters of a 500 this spring I think he'll have a great shot at making the olympic draw this summer with Raonic - he's got the game to do it too, just needs better consistency.
Was thinking about going to Davis cup in Vancouver in a couple weeks but in February my couch and TV > the coquihalla and live.
I PVRed the women's match. That was a bit of a butt kicking! Did Sharapova forget she had a big game to play?
I didn't even really expect Maria to be there at the end in the first place. Her game plan is just whale away at the ball side to side, and not much else. That'll beat 95% of the women on tour (including Wozniacki sadly) but against Azarenka who has a lot more athleticism and variety, not good enough.
It would be funny if now that Woz isn't #1, she suddenly goes on a tear and wins the next 3 majors. Flames are more likely to win the Cup than that happening though.

Grunting doesn't bother me too much, part of the game. Although I was watching it at 2am with the volume small. But that's more to block out the inane commentary "whoever wins the most points will win the match" than the grunting.
Pospisil has taken a bit of a step back. He can't qualify for the Australian Open and can't even get into the semifinals of challengers! Lost again yesterday to someguy.
