As for the sleeping thing, yeah, letting a baby sleep too much during the day is a disaster in the making.
Congrats. Have fun.

hmmm i should have worded it better. they didn't get glasses because their parents watched too much tv, it was because their parents let the tv do the babysitting. They must watch like 8-10 hours of tv a day!!! insane!!
oh yay. i just noticed my 3 year old played Cars 2 with my 3d Led tv and now there is a big flippiing scratch in it. and every time i look at the tv now i see the scratch!! Time to put the extended warranty into play here.

That's why I don't buy nice stuff. Kids are amazing at breaking things.
I'm sitting in the delivery room right now waiting for #4. Any suggestions on how to make the time speed up a bit? My wife is terribly slow in the popping out babies department. And I could've used a nap before this all got started.

Ugh. As someone whose dad did this for many of the same reasons as you, please don't carry this over into the teen years. My dad used to try and force this stuff on me when I was 14-18 and it just made me resent him.

Not planning on it, just plan to be there when wanted/needed, right now that is all the time...I know it will dwindle.

By the 4th you would figure they would be walking out. Make sure to slip the doc a 50 to throw a few extra stitches in when he is fixing her up, it will be like high school again.

Since this thread is becoming a bit of a catch all for all things kid related I thought I'd ask this here:
Later this month we are going to Maui, since my daughter is now 2-1/2 she has her own seat on the flight. Should we bring her car seat on board and use it on the airline seat? I've heard that this is recommended.
I asked the question last week to my aunt who is a retired AC flight attendant, and she said it is a great idea and we should do it.
So has anyone done this before? Prior to this flight my daughter was still in the infant car seat and we just checked that if traveling anywhere and didn't purchase a seat for her.

Bring lots to keep them entertained on the flight. Coloring books, movies ect. We've travelled 3 times since our daughter was 8 months and she does good on the flight but now that she is 2 she gets restless and needs to walk around every now and then. If your travelling with really young ones on Air Transat you can request the seat with a bassonette so that your baby can sleep most of the way. We found that our daughter was more comfortable and more interested in the flight when she had her own seat without the car seat but every kid is different that way.

Our daughter has had plenty of airline flights (13 in the first 2 years), but anytime she has had a seat to herself (as has happened on Maui flights before) she tends to be more restless.
My hope is the familiarity and comfort of her car seat will make that an easier battle. That and watching videos on the iphone and ipad or taking walks around the airplane with me. I also made sure we booked the bulkhead seats right behind executive class, so we have more room in front of us for her to play around in.

FALSE!
TV does not cause poor eyesight. Genetics do.

^^ Ya it's the same as reading in low light. It's a strain on the eyes but it won't damage them (as far as I know).

When you try to steer away from your dad's habits and spend as much time with your kids as possible now, you're really smothering them.
When they're teens, they'll start to run away from you and want to do their own things. Either that or they'll grow up a as mama's boy
You really cant win with kids

Yes I believe it is the max, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
Another thing to add, once they get old enough to start grabbing things, watch out for your baby hairs on the back and sides of your head. Those little fingers get in there and don't let go. Good god that hurts!

I don't know whether this has been brought up or not, but for anyone who has raised a large family, they know that every child is different in terms of natural ability, ease of discipline, ability to take risks, introvert vs extravert, special needs, etc. And how you treat or handle each child, in various matters, will probably vary to some degree. However, because of sibling rivalry, which in my experience is quite prevalent, particularly at an early age, I believe it is very important that the same amount of love is shown for each child.
It makes the family so much more harmonious and supportive, when your kids grow up, and they all love and care for one another. I think that favoratism can lead to the opposite.
