Looking at the pictures coming out of the looters they all appear to be of "The labour generation", brought up to believe that the world owes them a living, there is no need to work hard and get a job as the state will pay for you to live. That tap has been turned off but still they continue to take without giving anything back.
^^ What the UK needs is another M. Thatcher but sadly what it will get is yet another wuss who will cave in to the demands of the hordes (everyone from the unions to rioters to welfare recipients to welfare immigrants to leeches. In other words, labour voters.)

Coming from someone from Australia I find this quite ironic.
Your comment reinforces the sterotype that people have about Australia being a racist country. Is making a racist comment on a message board worth reinforcing that stereotype?

This is a strange event...there has been legitimate protests occuring in England in the past year or two.
Maybe this event will be used by their government to install a more intense police presence moving forward, and limit future protest of any kind. Hopefully not......
It seems this is just out of control looting, maybe just as a result of economic frustration and mob mentality. I think this is far beyond the shooting incident that supposedly sparked this, and obviously there are racial undertones among the economically distressed as well....
Unfortunately, I think this is what happens when you have a nanny/welfare state in control for so long, as others have said. What a broken society.....I just talked to a couple who came here from England 3 months ago and they filled my ear about the banks, taxation, immigration etc.......I didn't think it was that bad.
It's too bad England shop/home owners don't have a 2nd amendment to protect themselves with. Some of these thugs should be eating lead to curb the looting.......meanwhile the police are just standing by, totally overwhelmed and doing nothing to help the people.

Wow, the first Mikey post I don't totally disagree with. My only issue with your post is the impact the "nanny state" has had in creating the riots. I feel as if it is more just mob mentality/fun looting than it really is people upset about the social systems, etc in the UK.
Oh, and in response to the tap picture, there is a reason the brits made them like that:
I worked with a woman who owned a shop in London with her husband. They moved to Canada because they had problems with immigrants. That was over 30 years ago. It bothered me to hear otherwise nice people speak so negatively about certain ethnic groups, but I didn't know much about their situation so I didn't comment. I'd hate to hear what they'd have to say about what's going on now.
+1. This is what you get after 13 years of "labour" government.
If I was a British taxpayer I'd be mighty pissed that the state collects taxes to write generous welfare check yet is unable to provide basic protection from the recipients of those welfare checks.
This is criminality and copycat criminality. The Government we have in place now is far worse and far more directionless than Labour. This country has no hope because none of the political parties here can provide any direction beyond the next soundbite.
The view of Boris Johnson - the London joke Mayor walking down the street with a broom to 'clean up the streets' after being dragged back from vacation after was a sickening example of this on a local level. Thankfully he got the reaction he deserved.
