Few things annoy me more than unions bankrupting the companies that employ them, then getting bailed out by the general tax paying population.

I find it strange you don't think unions shelter the lazy. I've worked in multiple union jobs and that was exactly the case.

Personally I find the craddle to grave entitlement of some eastern Canadians to be pathetic and delusional.

I think the invisible hand of the market guided by socially responsible labour laws are much better than unions...unions have a self serving interest that seem to be at odds with productivity.

Looks like a big fight was brewing over the budget between Stelmach and Morton and that was what precipitated this. Observers are calling morton the front runner, I am not a fan of him though.

Morton is a tad too right wing for my tastes. I'd rather see a centrist like Dinning.

Totally. Fiscally conservative and intelligent, socially central. Best of both world's IMO.

I just want to throw out there that this is a really intelligent post on many levels.

This thread is awesomely Albertan...firey debates on politics, royalties, unions...looking forward to what's next.

Don't forget the spending of union dues to promote political parties of "their" choice; not necessarily the choice of those paying the dues.

Their whole caucus is in shambles. Tons of infighting going on.

Morton socially central???? Have you ever had a one-on-one conversation with him? He is a social conservative; some might even say an extreme one.

He is though, smart enough to know he can't bring his personal views to public politics.

He's conservative fiscally, and the rest of the party will control him socially. I don't think he'll be as bad as you think. In general people aren't as bad (or good) as they are made out to be.

Morton is fiscally responsible. He won't ruin Alberta.

I'd prefer Dinning though.
