If his confidence is that fragile, he has no business being a professional goaltender.
This is the opportunity every kid dreams of. I say give him a shot and see what he can do.

For those of you who are so adamant in starting Brian Elliott again. How many games did he actually steal for the team this season? I can't think of too many. The Flames added Michael Stone and Bartkowski and that changed the entire complexion of the defense and made it a lot easier for whoever was in goal.
Chad Johnson may not be the answer either , but he did save our season in November and stole many games in that stretch. I don't see Brian Elliott coming back, so I think we should just go with something different because so far, all we've gotten is a 3-0 deficit from Brian Elliott and I forsee a series sweep going with him again.

Per Glen Gulutzan, expect a line-up change or two for #Flames in Game 4 vs. #Ducks tomorrow. #ANAvsCGY #StanleyCup#

Which goaltender between Elliott and Johnson actually has a better game tomorrow is one thing, but I think mentally it would be much better for the team to put in someone else.
They just had an excellent effort negated by Elliott, and are on the verge of the season ending because of his play. At least with a goalie change they can feel like it is a bit of a reset....a fresh start. Best case is Johnson steals one, and the team starts to think that maybe they can get on a run with the new guy in the pipes.
Worst case is they lose, which we all pretty much expect anyway. And who cares whose in net in that case.
But putting Elliott back in would be very hard mentally on the whole team after the way the game went.

Sink or swim
Johnson has been terrible in 2017, give it to Gillies. Johnson is even worse with his glove than Elliott is. Ducks will have a field day with Johnson in all likelihood.

I'm shocked by the early returns of the poll numbers with Gillies doubling both Elliott and Johnson.
Either people are trying to be cheeky or have zero desire to even try and win the next game.
Because if you want the Flames to win, and there's no reason to not want them to win and at least try to pull off the miracle, starting Gillies makes zero sense in my eyes. He has one game experience and a mean nothing game to boot. You want to throw him into a playoff game where if he loses, the season is over? I don't get it.

That's nice and all. But with Elliott: 0-3, Johnson: who the heck knows, is his groin even ready to go? Just because he sits on the bench doesn't mean he's healthy.
Gillies should start because even if he gets shelled, it's first hand experience to use going into the off season.
And the wackiest gambits usually pay off. Just ask Tim Brady when he supplanted Drew Bledsoe

Elliott has lost 6 straight games now, 5 against the Ducks.
Johnson starts game 4.

Brady had took over after Bledsoe went down in Game 2 of that 2001 regular season. Not even close to the same.
First hand experience to use in the offseason for what? To know what they got in him? Future plans for the franchise should not even be a thought right now.
Focus has to be on winning tomorrow. Gillies does not provide that.
You can argue Elliott or Johnson, because those are the options. Gillies shouldn't be a consideration.

Elliott is back to bad. He sits.
Johnson cooled off considerably.
Gillies has one start and looked great.

Elliott got you here, he deserves a chance to redeem himself.
And as much as you all want to perform mental gymnastics trying to rationalize Johnson or Gillies, Brian Elliott is the best goaltender this franchise has. Any coach doesn't want to perform career suicide will always go with his biggest guns when the season is on the line.
I have a feeling the Flames will come out flying and Elliott will be great, but I ultimately think the Flames lose the series 4-1. I would obviously be over the moon if they tie it up and force seven.

I see Gillies as a reverse Bryzgalov. In 2006 (or was it 2007?) the Flames chased Giguere out of the crease against the Ducks and when they put Bryzgalov in he basically shut the Flames' offense down. I don't have much more confidence in Johnson at this point, so I'd be OK with the rookie getting the start and see what happens. It's not that much pressure, the Flames are already down 3-0.
Unfortunately Gulutzan is as stubborn as a mule and will probably play Elliott again.

Wideman will play for Bart
Lazar or Hathaway for Bouma
I'm uncertain on goal tending.

In a mean nothing game for the Flames against a team who had checked out of their season.
I'll disagree on Gillies even being a consideration until the cows come home.

Those are good changes, IMO. Wideman is not worse than Bartkowski and has playoff experience. He can chip in offensively too.
I love what Hathaway brings.
