It's important to maintain the distinction between corporations and small business here. It is usually small and very small businesses (mom and pop operations) that are paying basement-level wages.
It would be very easy to instill a minimum wage on corporate employment (and it is pretty rare to see corporations pay less than minimum wage).
An easy line in the sand is the $500k small business exemption. Once your profitability breaches $500k, you're subject to minimum wage guidelines.
Might also require industry exemptions, like restaurants.

Is it just me or are we getting an election soon...

And I got the Alberta elections register to vote thing stuck to both of my doors. And I can't imagine things getting better for Rachel a year from now when the pipeline still isn't built and her employment numbers look stupid.

There is a huge push to get voters registered - more so than any other provincial election I’ve seen. The NDP must be getting really worried, and are hoping a high voter turnout of uninformed voters will help their cause.

I had the person at my door to register me, but we all know the election is coming. I’ve had five (!!) door knockers for the UCP nomination now. They realize that this is the real election and next spring the NDP is getting trounced here. Whoever wins that nomination becomes the next MLA, and it’s basically not debatable.

Had someone come to my door today asking me if i wanted to be a member of the UCP to vote in a nomination race. I had to tell them no, as I am certainly not a conservative and dont wish to be a member. However, its tough, as I told them, none of the parties in Alberta/Canada for that matter appeal to me.

if you don't mind answering. will you still exercise your right to vote?
I'm always interested in what someone who can't find a party or platform they agree with that matches their views.
curious if you'd vote for the "least worst" party, spoil your ballot, protest vote for anyone else just to get the current bums out, or just not bother to vote.
I'm one of the people that always goes to the voting booth, as I feel an obligation to do so.

Why do people think that registering voters is a bad thing?

I always exercise my right to vote. For the last provincial and federal elections I just voted for whom I figured best aligned with myself. However in both those cases it turned out I was essentially voting to get Harper/Prentice and the PCs out. Which was what I wanted to happen. I just knew they weren't getting my vote.

No.
Doesn't really matter at this point though, they could have a clause to cross-breed all UCP members with ravenous wombats and wear clown suits for life, and they'd still win.

Rachel Notley has been the best Premier Alberta has had since Peter Lougheed. The UCP will still win the next election, but the overall popular vote will be closer than most people expect.

That's the exact persona she has been channeling on TV(Lougheed), but at some point, you have to really act physically instead of dramatically and have some results. She has none to show besides higher debt and higher taxes. At this point, only the gullible think she's really trying hard to get pipelines built, the weak measures she has taken so far are just plot filler. Look at her other ministers, you really think they are on board with pipelines? They want to sell that to you to keep their jobs, but they couldn't give a damn about it actually.

Well, I should hope so! That's the sort of leadership this province needs.
