I think they are getting more legs out of Trump and Republicans fighting so hard to prevent the release than they will with whatever comes out if they are released. Whatever comes out will likely be a letdown compared to what everyone is imagining.

Even if the House passes the legislation, it is unlikely to be signed into law. The Senate would have to approve the bill, which would be an uphill battle, and Trump can still veto it should the resolution land on his desk.
So what's the point of all this then? Why is it such a big deal if the senate likely won't pass it and Trump himself definitely won't let it see the light of day?
It seems to me a big deal is being made of the release when everyone knows it won't happen.

I don't know, keeping it in the news that the current sitting government, along with a significant amount of the American populace, support child rape, is always gonna be important. Sure, nothing will likely ever happen, but letting that fact fade from the public consciousness is not a good thing.

There was a release of some Epstein material yesterday. A lot of names in there.
And as an aside, Epstein cant spell or type well in his emails, most of what he wrote is painful to try and read.

I think what the idea is, is to get everyone to actually vote, in public record, whether or not to release the files. And in that way you either A) potentially turn some people who up until now have been all about back channel blocking things to avoid having a vote on it because they know they may actually have to vote yes on it to not look like they are protecting child abusers and thereby B) exposing those who are willing publicly vote for the protection of child abusers.
So if it gets to Trump's desk and he vetos it, you will have an actual record of every congress person, senator and president voting for or against protecting child abusers.
Whether it actually changes people's opinions in the now, I don't know and honestly don't have a lot of faith anyone will give a crap (not enough to do anything of relevance anyways). But it will be in the public record forever that those people voted to protect predators. And that's important.
There will be more leaks from the Epstein Estate and victims continuing to come forward. Suppressing the files will just look worse for Trump and his minions.
Thomas Massie (R) to CNN on the Epstein files: "This vote is gonna be on your record for longer than Trump is gonna be president. And what are you gonna do in 2028 and 2030 when you're in a debate … and they say, 'How can we trust you? You covered up for a pedophile back in 2025.'"

Yeah but if he is what we think he is, is it worse to be a suppressor of information, or officially outed as a child rapist?
If he is what we think he is, there's already been a hit ordered on one of the most high profile criminals in history, and it exists on camera somewhere. One of the most high profile victims, also dead (suicide).
If we think there's truth on this while Trump is still alive and in office, I think we're kidding ourselves. The only truth we'll get is the vote of people who knew about it and covered it up. And maybe that has to be enough.
I wonder if Republicans (or whomever pulls the strings behind the scenes) is ready to drop Trump, and this would be a perfect way to get rid of him and inherit the trust of MAGA crowd. The MAGA crowd has been calling for the files to be released and now the Republicans can feign shock and replace Trump.

Somewhat more depressing, in terms of quotes from that interview, is Ro Khanna saying, "This is the line America has drawn. You can do a lot of bad things, but you can't rape and abuse underage girls".
... Yeah that's... that's not a ringing endorsement of America. Particularly when it's clear that among the bad things you can do without people getting up in arms about it and making something happen is condone the shooting of those underage girls in their classrooms.

Senior military officials on Wednesday presented President Trump with updated options for potential operations in Venezuela, including strikes on land, according to multiple sources familiar with the meetings at the White House. "
That's the thing, it depends on the laws of the jurisdiction you're in! It's like there are tax havens, but for pedophiles!
... Well actually in the case of the specific pedophiles mentioned in the Epstein files they probably also are big on the normal tax havens too but you get what I'm saying here
