Honestly, ATCO is rich. They should find a way to make it playable during that time; put a modular/temporary bubble over the entire pitch, encompassing the field, the south and east structures, and the north grass. Design it in a way that it can be set up and taken down repeatedly. It's ambitious, but not impossible. I recommend my firm to lead this feasibility study / design / construction project.

They talked a lot about the science of grass. Enough to bore me and have me tune out.
CONCACAF has played games in Denver in February on a grass pitch where it was -15 with a windchill of -25 so there's precedent for playing games in these conditions.
Here's highlights of Colorado Rapids hosting Communicaciones in February. I thought the idea of playing at Spruce Meadows in February was ridiculous but the playing surface seems decent in these highlights.

More discussion from Noonan on league expansion; the familiar names are all mentioned (Quebec City, Laval, Edmonton and Kelowna), and notes that stadium infrastructure is the biggest barrier. That said, says there's lots of interested ownership parties (16) right now. Also mentions London, UK as a city that has multiple teams in the same metro centre. No mention of Windsor (previously officially announced), but I think teams in Mississauga, Scarborough, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, and hopefully Saskatoon (now in 'purgatory') are up for discussions in the near future too.

There's also this game from 2018. And IIRC Minnesota has hosted some MLS games in similar conditions.

It really sounds like nothing is on the horizon, which is fine, except that York should fold without a new owner.
To clarify on my post...their intent is to play at Spruce Meadows. I had just asked them "what if it's unplayable", and that's what they said they were looking at for alternatives, if needed.

Lol. Theres something I dont miss. Playing in the snow and cold.
Being a GK and taking a shot off the thigh or something...it stings for hours.
Or as a CB and going for a header? Its like heading a rock.
The *ping* it makes as it bounds off your cranium will reverberate in your skull for hours.
I loved playing in the rain though. That was fun. Largely because the fields in Calgary suuuuuck...they are rock-hard so the rain tended to soften them up a bit.
Conversely, slide tacking someone over a springler-head is all of the fun and joy that it sounds like! Skin? On your knees? Luxury! Who needs that crap?

Sounds like CPL to Quebec City is getting closer to reality. According to the Google Translate version of this article the club would play out of the stadium at Laval University while a new 5-6000 seat stadium is built.
Noonan says that any expansion bid without a plan to build a stadium would not be approved, as the stadium at Laval University will not work in the medium to long term (too big for CPL, running track, turf needs replacing, etc). Lots of talk of a new stadium that could be built elsewhere at Laval University, and could be used by a CPL team, a women's team in Project 8, University teams and Quebec soccer.
Apparently multiple groups trying to get a club in Quebec with European ownership groups involved. City seems to be on board. Business seems to have an appetite to support it.
Quebec City is #1 on my away destinations. Wanderers Grounds was awesome, and that during with a midweek game delayed by an hour where it was half full. Will be great if they can get their new stadium.
Karifa Yao is getting released by the Whitecaps. Bring him home!
Went to the Spruce Meadows Christmas market this afternoon, got a picture with the shield. It’s amazing how much better the parking worked there today than a Cavs game. Probably 10x the parking attendants to keep things moving

Interesting to hear him say that he can get his permanent residency which then makes it a no brainer for the Canadian MLS clubs as he won’t take up an international spot
Canadian Premier League team York United has been sold to Game Plan Sports, a newly formed group of investors that has extensive ties to Mexican soccer, sources briefed on the deal told The Athletic.
Glad to hear this ownership is sorted out! A healthier ownership in York is a healthier status for the CPL as a whole.
