Sharp also is, or at least was, a very good defensive player.

On a cheaper one year deal, it's really a no brainer.

How can you come to any other conclusion? Cammalleri over both Justin Williams and Patrick Sharp?

I could see an argument over Sharp mainly due to his injury problems last year but when you measure everything else size, right shots(which we need), offensive output, leadership, proven winners who know what it takes to lift Lord Stanley's Cup.

Mike Cammalleri does not check any of our boxes other than he has decent speed. So in my mind, knowing that TheScorpion tends to like the people more than what they deliver on the ice(David Jones, Jokkipakka), I would definitely say his heart is much bigger than his brain.

Hell at times I tend to go with my heart too, but in Free Agency I think it is prudent to go with what the options bring to the team more than some great memories you had form a player that was much better 10 years ago.

I really don't know why people think I liked Jokipakka, he was ####ing awful

I find size and intangibles overrated. Cammy had some personal issues with his family last year and Devils fans seem to think he's due for a bounce back year. Cammalleri, when he's at his best even now, is a skilled, speedy winger with a bullet of a one timer. I really don't care about Williams' and Sharp's Stanley Cups, who cares.

Default 2017/2018 Trade Speculation and Rumors

This place is baffling to me sometimes. Clamoring for 40 year old Doan. Hype machine for one-trick pony Mike Cammalleri for a 3rd tour... Dear god no to all of the above.

Like for the most part posters generally agree Iginla would no longer make sense because of his age and declining skill set. So where is this Doan thing coming from? He is older and less good so.... you may as well just be demand we re-sign Iggy at that point

Might as well close this thread... unless they are trading Stajan ... just enough money left to sign Bennett, Ferland and Lazar and that's it

You definitely had a few week stretch of fawning over Jokkipakka there Scorp.

I would much much prefer Sharp over Doan. Just say no to Doan.

lol, the Flames have $9.8 million in cap space. We will be in trouble if those three are coming in for anywhere near that.

Ask Marleau if he wants to win the cup. If so, sign for whatever's left after you resign Bennett, Ferland and Lazar.

That is false. There is presently almost $10.0 m of cap space.

Maybe in like April 2016, when he played decently... after that, yuck.

Yeah, my ideal pick would be Marleau, and then Cammalleri. If Radulov would sign here, sure, but he won't.

And this proves my point that you use your heart. Knowing what it takes to win a championship and show the work ethic required seems like a very valuable intangible to me. I would take that over a hard one-timer any day

Sharp is 35+ so he could sign a one-year bonus-laden contract if there's concern about his durability after his injuries last season.

The Flames have very few, if any, triggermen at the moment. Cammalleri brings that. I'm not saying sign him as a number one winger, but maybe you slide him onto the third line and run something like this:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Cammalleri - Bennett - Versteeg
Lazar - Jankowski - Brouwer
Stajan

Well you should, because bringing in people who have been there before, and knows what it takes to win, is exactly the reason why you bring veterans in, to teach and mentor our young guys.

Is Williams or Sharp the answer? I don't know, but I'd rather have their intangibles rather than a third tour of duty for a small one dimensional winger from an era of the Flames that seemed to revel in indifference.
