Yeah, Tkachuk is great but I think he has graduated from prospect level to regular NHL player at this point.

That's why I defined blue chip prospects. Those are the "top prospects" in my opinion who Treliving should try to hold onto. Even then, most fans of other teams in the league wouldn't even think much about acquiring Jankowski or Parsons... I would be happy if they proved me wrong but the Flames minor league/AHL prospects are not that good... some of them might pan out and that's why I think the Flames should give some a chance to see if they can surprise next year on the big club but there aren't many prospects imo who I would guarantee will/should become regulsr NHL players.

You obviously have a pessimistic outlook and it seemed to me like you took a simple quote and used it as a springboard to whine about how you don't consider us to have a blue-chip prospect. That would be because the majority of the time, they're like Tkachuk and immediately make an impact in the NHL.
So no, 3/4 way through a season, we don't have an elite prospect that's in the system that isn't already on the team.
Regardless of that, Treliving said the same thing most GMs say. That they're not moving their "top" prospects for a quick fix at the trade deadline. With the expansion draft and the current market, the's very likely going to be few trades of significance anyway.
You seemed to me like one of a couple people who took an innocent sound bite and used it as an opportunity to be negative / glum.

LeBrun on Carolina's depth on defense:
http://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/1...trade-deadline
Quote:
"I think everyone is always looking for D and we feel comfortable with our depth there," Hurricanes GM Ron Francis told ESPN.com Thursday. "We're always looking at all options to make our team better; if that's an area of strength and you can address an area of weakness, we'd certainly look at those possibilities."
My guess is that the Hurricanes would potentially move a young defenseman, whether that's an NHL player or prospect, if it netted them a front-line center. That's the premium target Carolina would like to find over the next 5-6 months.
|
Quote:
Carolina's D, if you're Colorado or any other team drooling for a young blue-liner, has a lot to like: Brett Pesce, 22; Jaccob Slavin, 22; Noah Hanifin, 20; Ryan Murphy, 23; there there's Haydn Fleury, 20, having a nice AHL season, Trevor Carrick, 22, another AHLer perhaps ready for the NHL next season; and 18-year-old junior Jake Bean coming up the ranks.
Colorado would not be alone, of course, in looking at Carolina's D depth. I mean, who doesn't need a good young D? The Tampa Bay Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres, Calgary Flames, Winnipeg Jets and Detroit Red Wings are just some teams on that list.

I'm hearing some chatter that Toronto is suddenly in play for either Landeskog or Duchene
Jason Brough @JasonPHT
Benning on @TSN1040 talking about trading a defenseman for a winger again.

There was a rumour about Evander Kane and the flames some time ago too. Perhaps a swap of unwanteds? Wideman for Kane and then throw in Kulikov for whatever else?
