Sounds like fraudsters and scam artists aren't the only ones taking advantage of the tragedy.

Seven part-time councillors currently earning $36,000 per year will see their pay rise to $75,000. Councillors Allan Vinni, Keith McGrath, and Sheldon Germain -- all part of a newly minted relief committee -- will now work full-time. Their pay will rise to $150,000 per year. That’s believed to be the highest base salary for any councillor in Canada

Soon after the meeting several councillors and the mayor said they would not be accepting the wage hike.
Blake, Stroud and Ault said after the meeting they would be rejecting their respective salary increases.
McGrath said that since his employer Aecon was continuing to pay his salary he would not be taking any municipal funds in addition to his pre-fire salary of about $36,000.
“I have a right as an employee to reject any increase,” he said. “I will not take an extra dollar to serve our citizens.”

And finally, under control

The craziest statement in this article:
Nonetheless, a lot of work remains as firefighters continue to look for and extinguish hotspots, she said.
The next phase is to extinguish the fire completely, which will likely take until next summer, she said.
I can't imagine trying to go through thousands of hectares, with peat swamps, muskeg, etc, looking for hot spots.
