We're lucky as hell to have Johnny in our system. Even if(I don't think this will be the case) he doesn't make the big show he's sure providing some excitement for our fan base now!

He's a great comparison to Kane.

Only difference is the size/weight issue. Kane isn't big, but he isn't as small as Johnny Hockey.

Personally I think the only holding Gaudreau back is physical maturity and that will take more time than normal because he was so small to begin with. If he gets up to 180-190#, he'll be a great NHL player.

If he ever got up that high in weight with his frame, he'd look like a wwe wrestler. Not happening without roids and a subsequent loss of his agility and speed.

I find it hilarious when people think you can't put on any kind of muscle mass without taking steroids. It is entirely possibly. With enough dedication and hard work he can easily get to 180lbs. And he sure as hell doesn't need to use steroids. Educate yourself on how someone builds muscle in a clean way before spouting off stupid comments like that.

By comparison, Martin St. Louis, who nobody in his right mind would call slow, is 180lbs. He has to be that heavy to compete at his size. That is what Johnny Hockey will need to get too as well.

lol no way JG will get to 180, especially at his age and his bodys maturity. and what for? he plays like kane who relies on shiftiness and if he ever makes it to 170 he should be fine. hes 5'8, do you guys realize how big you would look even at 170. its hard for a lot of guys to keep on a lot of muscle throughout a season as well. MSL legs would take years to get.

I have a handful of friends who are fitness freaks between 5'7 to 5'9 and 170-190 is very achievable. Of course none had JG's build at his age.

of course its acheivable but hes gonna be a proffesional athlete spending at least a couple hours at the rink everyday and traveling on top of that. It can be hard to keep weight on throughout a season not to mention actually putting it on. i think people are a bit to worried about his weight, id expect him to come in next year in the 160-165 range and still have little trouble adjusting to pro.

Johnny is doing an unbelievable amount of gains-robbing cardio though. I would be shocked if he could add 30lbs of muscle to his frame.

Not impossible I guess, but it ain't happening. Especially not anytime soon.

That simply is not true. Sure, MSL has great muscle/weight for his height, but Gaudreau doesn't need to be "heavy to compete at his size."

Tyler Ennis - 5'9 - 169lbs
Cam Atikinson - 5'8 - 174lbs

Hell, even P. Byron is 5'7 - 153lbs and can hold his own/preform at the NHL. (+ Gaudreau has 10x the skill that Byron has).

I agree it would benefit Gaudreau to put more muscle mass on his frame, but I don't think it will be the determining factor to wether he competes at the NHL or not.

Kid is a pit bull though and plays with an edge. Also quite highly skilled.

If Gaudreau was as feisty as Byron I'd have little concern of him game translating to the pros

Gaudreau at dev camp guess-timated that he'd be in the low-to-mid 160s when he's done school.

Hopefully he will be able to afford better nutrition once he's allowed to be paid to play hockey. I know my brother had a hard time affording an athlete's diet when he was going to school.

Or just think how many skittles an NHL salary can get you.

Patrick Kane is 180lbs as well.

Its not that hard to put on 10lbs of muscle in the off-season. Obviously he needs to put the work in, but its not impossible. So if he finishes college hockey at 160-165lbs, which is what he thought he'd be at, one good off-season workout with quality training and quality food and he should easily be able to push past 170lbs. Stamkos put on 8lbs of muscle in the off season after his rookie season at the same age that Johnny Hockey is at now.

Not sure why everyone is so up in arms about it. We're going to compare him to Paul Byron now? The stronger Gaudreau is, the better off he'll be.

Patrick Kane is also 3 or 4 inches taller, so he's not a good comparable. 5' 11" and 180 is about the same build a a 160 Johnny Gaudreau
