Even uncle Ted wouldn't have approved this.
This is stupid.

That's exactly it. Beeston's as much of an idiot in this whole game. Fack I'm pissed. We are talking baseball here. $10M isn't THAT bad for a guy who has solid potential. Getting rid of him for nothing is a load of crap. Riccardi and Beeston should be let go immediately for this idiocy. It's absolute lunacy, and I'm fn pissed. Wells is the guy you drop for nothing with that huge contract, Rios' contract is livable. Oh man, I'm at a loss for words, just a terrible thing to do moving forward.

I'm still chewing on this one. I'm not sure this is anything but a positive move if the Jays are looking to rebuild. I'm assuming Doc gets traded between the offseason and the trade deadline but the Jays could possibly put together an attractive package to entice him to stay now. B.J. Ryan's 12 million next year doesn't help though.

I didn't particularly like Rios (not compared to my complete dislike for Wells), but even for those who are happy he was shipped, to get absolutely nothing in return is crazy.
For $20K the Blue Jays couldn't have added him with Halladay to get a better package in return? They couldn't have traded him at the deadline to a team that needed another power outfielder?
I'm in absolute shock that any GM would do something like this.

Personally I am not shocked by this move, its obvious the Jays need to cut salary....
Rios contract was a problem, in my view he is absolutely not a $12-$14m player per season.
What I am curious on is to hear the Jays management press conference to explain the move.
I would also bet, Snider is recalled to replace Rios.

So he can get arbitration a year earlier and further hamstring the budget....
You won't see Snider until roster expansion.

The Jays obviously offered him at the trading deadline. This means NO TEAM would surrender ANYTHING for Rios.
It's not just the Jays who see his value and nothing

Sportsnet commentators (during today's game) said the same thing, that they expect Snider will be recalled.

I would bet the Jays could have received some sort of package but they would have to pick a portion of the salary.

I do know that he is allowed a certain number of games before roster expansion, but I think he may have played them. If not, cool, call him up. But if they do something stupid that ends up in him getting arbitration a year early, this whole cycle is going to repeat itself. I hate being a Jays fan so much.

Rios is making too much money to be under achieving. His poor work ethic and attitude brings a team down. I believe this is the right move for the franchise. But for the love of baseball please do not sign another player with a casual style like Rios and Wells. Get somebody who gives a damn.

Give me a break. JP has had no problem recruiting Top Tier free agents to come play in Toronto, he just does a horrible job at it.

Did you forget green text? What big name FAs has JP recruited without overpaying or taking huge injury risks? Mencherson?

This is probably true. Deadline deals have been trending towards this for a few years now.
