Game over, season over. Now I'm 100% hockey baby.
Hate NFL Overtime, hate NFL pass interference. I know I'm being bitter, but it's the truth.

THAT is why I hate the NFL interference rule...
Throw it deep and pray for the PI call. It should only be a 15 yarder, IMO.

Wouldn't be a problem if the Saints could play defense. The NFL's PI rule is perfect because it prevents the defense from taking blatant PI calls when they know they're beat.

I think it puts the defense at a distinct disadvantage, which is what the league wants, of course. I'm fully aware of the Saints inability to play defense, especially in the secondary. Then again, both of their starting corners are out for the season.
It's not just a Saints thing, I think the rule is too arbitrary on one hand, and too debilitating to the defense. Pass interference is often a judgement call, and too often leads to game changing plays like we saw tonight.
I think college has it perfect, 15 yards, and an automatic first. If the official blew the call, the defense has a chance to make it up. If it was the right call, the offense is humming right along.
Just my opinion.
BTW, the Saints didn't really deserve to win that game, they were fortunate to be in it by capitalizing on some bad turnovers. Just hate to see games changed on 35+ yard penalties.

Nice flyby Iggle Fan I have no problem with spot of foul pi calls, but I do hate when the offence is rewarded for a garbage under thrown pass, in those coming back to the ball incidents it should be a 15 yd penalty.

Saints benefited from bonehead Lovie coaching too, fake punt? Throwing twice up 21-17? Saints just couldn't defend that last drive in regulation

Completely, both teams were relatively inept, the Saints special teams coverage was awful, and the Bears fumbled and int'ed the Saints back into the game. The Saints got what they deserved, and will continue to be a mediocre club with that defence and scheme.

Agreed, that fake punt almost worked though! The PI in the endzone should have been called as well, no question. Saints went to a prevent style defense on that last drive, and I believe it is you that has a sig that said "prevent defense prevents you from winning..."
Oh well, I could very easily see the Saints give the Lions their first win next weekend.
As a curiosity, I wonder how many folks think the NFL pass interference rule is OK, and if they think the same of NHL rules proposed to help with offense? It's apples and oranges, but I'm a defense first guy. I'd much rather see hard fought 21-14 NFL games and hard fought 2-1 NHL games.
My initial impression is that many think the NFL rule is OK, but would rather not see NHL reules enacted to increase scoring. Just an observation from my time here on CP.

I think the CFL is pretty horrible when compared to the NFL but a good rule they have there is that both teams get the ball in overtime and a chance to atleast match the other team. I've always hated that a coin toss can determine if you win or lose.

NFL overtime is garbage. I love the NCAA each team gets a shot in the redzone. IMO that's the only fair way.

Wasn't meant that way. I know there hurting in the secondary and that Jason David is beyond awful. That being said, the flaw in Moe's system is that if it's the last play of the game and the offense tosses up a hail mary from their own 45 and the defender is clearly beat in the endzone but hauls the receiver down then the offense has to try again from the defense's 40 and that's not a very high percentage play.
I honestly think the officials have been pretty good on PI calls this year, often giving too much benefit of doubt to the defender. All three PI calls that I saw tonight were totally legit and another one should've been called on the Saints in the endzone on Olsen.

You'd have to change it to fit the NFL though. In college, the team gets on the opposing team's 25 (?). In the NFL I think you'd run into too many teams trying not to lose and a whole lot field goals being kicked and not much being settled in a timely fashion.

I didn't mind the fake punt as much as throwing twice after they had stuff the Saints on 4th down. What the heck kind of call was that on 4th down by Payton anyways!?
Pass Interference rule is ok, it's the refs that suck. Should have been PI in the end zone at the end of regulation and not in OT. If a ball is underthrown and the receiver is running back into the defense, it shouldn't be PI.

The best way would be to give each team a possession at the opponents 30, but the NFL at it's core is a product for the networks. There is no way they approve adding another hour to games, that's a ton of football with zero ad revenue.

I'm kind of on the fence with NFL OT. It was one thing that the late, great, Lamar Hunt wanted to change and tried for years to push it through the NFL Competition Committee with no luck. When your team loses in OT you want to see a change. When your team wins in OT, your not as concerned about it. I guess the NFL is more concerned with the length of the game more than anything.

That's more my problem with it. As soon as on the Orton throw, you saw Hester stop and have to wait for it, I knew it was gonna be trouble. Far too often you see PI calls in that situation.
Over-all it was a tough game to watch, I knew whoever won that coin toss was gonna take er. Pierre Thomas was bar none our best offensive player out there today, he is really starting to come into his own. I think the next time these two teams play it needs to be in the Superdome, I'm sick of them playing at Soldier Field in December every damn year.

Personally, I think if the is a score on the first possession, there should be a kick-off. Every team should be guaranteed a one possession.
As far as pass interference, the rule is fine the way it is. There can't be any incentive to interfere on plays longer than 15 yards. And on passes that are thrown short, it gives the defense a heck of a chance at an interception, as long as they aren't trying to chase down a WR who has just beaten them like a rented mule.

I can't wait for Lions @ Colts tomorrow (heck all the games tomorrow). Only 3 weeks left in the NFL season and still so much to be decided!

I could really use a big game from Reggie Wayne this week.
