If Kenney loses i think a lot of credit should go to Notley continually hammering home the point about his education critic being a bigot, which is what seemed to bother Adler so much in their radio interview.

It's the most prominent issue of Kenney's leadership right now; why didn't he turf a homophobe?

So by just not losing...Kenney wins by default?

Seems to be a lot of that feeling on twitter anyhow.

Yeah didn't really change my mind on anything either.

-Notley more interested in attacking Kenney than saying how she'll improve things

-Mandell did alright and I like his party's stance on most things but wish Clark was still the leader

-Kahn talks with his hands too much and couldn't go off script. Did better than I thought, comes across as likable, but will he manage to do better than third in his own riding this time? Probably not

-Kenney probably comes out at the end looking the best, but mostly because Notley made herself look dumb. But how bad he sounded in the Adler interview is still fresh in my mind

Is that what happened? The production team said we'll take the giant but you can't air the debate?

All due respect, no it isnt. It may be ricocheting off the walls of the NDP echo chambers but among the populace i think its nothing more than a blip.

"Its about the economy stupid"...and on that portfolio he is miles ahead of all of them.

I was incorrect. Ignore my response to that one.

Surprisingly to me Kenney came out a lot better then Notley on Education and on Healthcare.

Notley lost the election on this debate. I expected better from her but she was clearly rattled and unprepaired.

The centrist profile was raised considerably. There are now visible other options. That alone is a win, and both Khan and Mandel did fine.

Every time I hear kenney defend his party as 'mainstream' I get Flashes of Charles McGill holding a lamp and yelling at his law partner Howard, "I"M FINE!"

Don't know who is running comms on this but jesus, if you have to call yourself mainstream you give everyone the impression that you AREN'T.

Dude... if Notley had crushed it and left the room with all her opponents collapsed on the floor crying in defeat, you'd say she lost.

I imagine this debate had approximately zero effect on anyone. Not because someone did better than someone else, but because literally everyone’s opinion on who did better between Notley and Kenney seems to be consistent with their previously held notions of those leaders.

My opinion: I think Mandel did swell. Notley not so hotley. Kenney still struggles to appeal to the many. And Khan be gone!

These debates are all about wooing the undecided voters, I don't know if Notley came across well enough to woo that segment, which I believe is actually relatively small this time around.

Kenney and Notley were both way too preoccupied with smear attacks, but even with those they both did poorly. Notley by failing to attack his leadership strongly enough and Kenney with his constant “alliance with Justin Trudeau” line.

Khan actually surprised me the most in this debate. I think he was most effective in criticizing Kenney although that helps Notley more than himself. He also went after Mandel pretty well, seemed to have caught Mandel completely off guard. But he could have foregone constantly reminding us he is a constitutional lawyer, go show your federal party leader how to address constitutional issues if you really want us to be impressed by it.

Default Alberta Election Thread - Election Day April 16 2019

khan did terribly. All he did was pat himself on the back and give platitudes and generalities... Typical of a lawyer

Mandel came across much better than I expected - a bit of that centrist appeal for sure. Too bad their policies are half baked and don’t really stand to scrutiny (economic, healthcare). Hopefully with 4 years to work on it, they become a viable option in the next election.

Kenney was better than I’d expected, much less cocky and aggravating than I’d seen before. Conversely, the previously-stately Notley was immature, unprepared and constantly on the attack. She was unable to provide any solid responses on what she’d do if re-elected, instead constantly slinging mud. Really bad look - I’d been somewhat impressed previously with how she carried herself, but since the writ was dropped, she’s really jumped into the mud and gone low-brow.

The debate really helped me decide where I am going to vote!

That it? Or is there another one? Or do the feds only do multiple debates? Or am I crazy and that’s an American thing?
