He took his time with Gulutzan, interviewed a lot of people, and I remember this forum was upset too.
Is it not possible that Peters would have been a target of Dallas, NY, etc.?

I like the first impression. Also the reference to the young guys on the blueline and Janko. Skipping Ferland on the first line. Passing mention of Brodie only.
I hope he shows more ability to change on the fly than Gully did.
The Brouwer mention was concerning given he was possibly the worst regular on the team last year. When you regularly play on the powerplay and put up 6 goals and are 33 headed into the next season that should be end of the road territory.
I was really hoping he'd be bought out this summer and this was a clear sign that isn't happening.
Probably reading more into the mentions but Sam Bennett, Ferland, Brodie and Stone didn't strike me as real secure in the flaming C

Yup. I liked what Peter's said a lot. Fast, attacking, use the players skill sets to their potential. Sounds a little bit of both Babs and Sutter.
There was one take I got from that presser. Coaches and players didn't interact much under gully.

I like what he said about Tkachuk. Paraphrasing: "There aren't 5 guys like him in the whole league. You've got Marchand, Tkachuk ..."

I was hoping for a more experienced coach as well.. but no success is a reach, he's won a memorial cup and a world championship gold medal. His playoff success in Carolina is a concern but those are not minor achievements.

I agree - there's as much validity in saying "even though he said all the right things i remain unconvinced' as much as there is in saying "he said all the right things and I've changed my mind"
Talk is cheap. I could have come in and said exactly what Peters said today, and I wouldnt trust myself to coach a Junior C team

Because Treliving has a specific way he thinks the game should be played and only Peters met his checklist and criteria. Possession seems to be a big thing for Treliving and he just went from the #3 guy to the #1 guy. Anyone who thought it was going to be Alain Vingault was dreaming.

What a failure... head coaching at the NHL and international levels. Where oh where does he find his confidence?

I'm excited about Peter's and get the feeling he's chomping at the bit to get going.
He sounds like he coaches from the net out. He named every goalie in the system within the first 10 minutes of the interview.
I think Brad is taking a huge gamble even though he sounds very confident in what Bill should be able to do with all his assistant, International experience.
Let's hope he finds excellent Asst coaches for the defence, powerplay, pK.
At the end of the day I really want to see our young players get more opportunities as I'm tired of watching vets get those chances only to fail.
Too early to say this but him already defending Brouwer and saying he'll get another chance worries me. Sure give him a chance but he loses the A in my opinion.
Glad this is done now and hopefully we have something to look forward to

I guess it's different when you've already expressed this opinion multiple times, come into this thread and state it doesn't matter what he has said, I am still going to repeat my talking points. There's no discussion there.

Actions speak louder than words, but I liked his comments about a competitive training camp, puck possession, attacking and playing quick, offence from the D (especially comment about Gio and Hamilton on PP), and his knowledge of who his best forwards are (sounds like G, H, M, G, T = PP1).
In general, he seemed well-spoken, confident and direct. It was impressive. There’s charisma there, especially the story with Babcock and Lindstrom. He seems like a strong personality.

I’m not going to guess whether I think this is the wrong move or the right move, but it sounds pretty much like an expensive lateral move at the moment with the previous staff on the books next year.
Just look at what Hurricanes’ columnist Luke DeCock had to say about the common criticisms of Bill Peters on the Fan 960 with Rob Kerr:
- No identity
- Couldn’t get most out of its players
- Very technical
- Plays soft
- Mediocre special teams
Basically sounds like the criticisms people here had about GG.
The statistics and record is uncanny as well
Gulutzan
37-35-10-84 points
-27 goal differential
PP/PK = 98%
Corsi: #3
Fenwick: #2
Scoring Chances For %: #3
Shots For %: #4
Shooting %: #3
Peters
36-35-11-83 points
-28 goal differential
PP/PK = 96%
Corsi: #1
Fenwick: #3
Scoring Chances For %: #2
Shots For %: #3
Shooting %: #4

Still good stats considering the team he coached is in an organizational mess with zero elite players.

If can do what he says he wants to do, then I'm sold.
IF
I like that he brought up the Lack comments on his own, and said he regretted them immediately and called them a low point for him, and that he apologized to Eddie immediately.
Shows good character.

He's not the most successful coach out there but this comment is a pretty bad hyperbole.

Not surprising, lots of good things said.
One of the stand outs was emphasizing getting coaches to be more involved with the players. Get to know them, get to understand them and what pushes buttons. Seems to be an area which Gulutzan and crew likely failed. And probably why Gelinas survived as I'm sure he'd be the one guy who would mix it up in the room.

Found it interesting when talking about Assistants, Tre mentioned that he wants the coaches to get out of the coach's room and in with the players. Kinda validates the concerns many had with GG not talking to players after the games

I feel like Smitty will flourish under Peters. Having someone be that voice in the room will allow Smith just to focus on being a goaltender and not a screamer.

Gotta think that you would have preferred a stuttering idiot who was unsure of himself so you could feel satisfied and vindicated.
